Thunderbolt disconnects when MacBook sleeps

See: Thunderbolt Display Firmware 1.2 broke the USB inside the display.

No solution yet. I have a call in w/ Apple Support later today. I recommend you all start calling them.

Symptoms are: TBD connected, Mac goes to sleep or hibernate...when it wakes, USB (including Audio) is inoperative. Unplug/plug TBD back into Mac, item restores.

SMC and PRAM resets do not work permanently...restarting Mac (whether MacBook, Mac Mini or MB Air) doesn't work permanently.

The audio card in the TB Display is a USB device. If you look in your system report you'll see that it's connected.

Here's another thing you can try...Start FaceTime...You'll notice your FaceTime camera doesn't work (in the display) either. It's USB also.

I would strike a guess that the USB driver got borked on the firmware update.

I can't give them one more minute of my time on this issue-- the script that was generously shared on this thread has solved the issue enough for me. My MBP is docked 75% of the time. I must have spent 3 hours on phone support, 3 trips to Genius Bar, they replaced cable. Only thing that helped is the script.

I received a TBD in July to replace my "old" monitor that didn't have a camera feature. I have had issues ever since. After getting a new logic board and new cables for the TBD I exchanged it for a new on this weekend. I'm working with a MBP late '11 model. Apple also replaced the logic board on my computer. I thought I found the problem- bad apple TBD- I mean that must be it, right?!? Nope. Same problem day one with the new TBD. I could really use some help on this issue. I read through the scripts but I have little or no understanding of where a script would go once I have it. May I have the basics, please?

Okay--- I figured out how to run the script. AND... it worked! That said, my mail program seems to be running slow right now. Actually- everything seems to be running slow. Is that normal?

Got in late on this one.

I have a TD with my MBP 13 and the problem was there even with el Capitan.

I have this same issue with one of our MBP and a TBD and have tried to use the terminal comand mbp> sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 3 as you have shown but I get a return on terminal of -bash mbp: command not found.

Any idea where I am going wrong ?

Bruce, you are copying the command line prompt "mbp>" onto your command line. You should only copy the line starting with "sudo".

Bruce, before you use this command, you should record your current settings. Enter the following to get all power management settings:

sudo pmset -g

Print or copy and save the results. You could do that automatically:

date >>CurrentPMSettings.txt; sudo pmset -g >> CurrentPMSettings.txt

Thanks for the reply and yes you are correct - the penny dropped about an hour after I posted so apologies for not getting here to call it off. I dont do a lot with terminal.
