Uninstall Offers4U

I just upgraded to Mavericks.

There is an annoying shopping/pricing "tool" being overlayed on most Safari pages. How do I remove it, kill it, hunt down the code writer... anything... help!

It does give you the opportunity to go to the "offers4U" website, download an uninstaller, and use that tool. Unfortunately, that uninstaller is a .exe file and useless to me... us.

Thanks!

Not sure if thats a plugin or extension but we can find out... Safari > Preferences > Extensions if u see it there remove it, if not then /Library/Internet Plug-Ins (move it from there into trash) / Also check ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins. Make sure Safari is not running.

Malwarebytes and Bitdefender do not work on this issue anymore at least with Chrome. The only thing that did was a hard reset. Go to chrome>settings>show advanced settings>Reset settings

Also I install very little software so I KNOW where it came from. My daughter is in college and they gave us a free subscription to MS Office which I downloaded and installed. That very day is when this offers4u crap started showing. That'll teach me to go to the evil empire...

That suggests that the adware had been removed, but you hadn't yet reset the home page and search engine settings. That's something that has to be done manually, and that's the only thing that resetting Chrome's settings would have done for you.

I'm not much of a fan of the "Evil Empire" either, but Microsoft definitely doesn't get into the business of distributing adware. If that installer is actually where the adware came from, then the installer didn't come from Microsoft.

I've been vexed by this for a few months, always seeing popups on Amazon.com and imdb.com pages in Chrome. No unusual extensions in in any browser, no un-related plugins in root or home directory.

Latest version of Malware bytes found 2, one related to the Awesome Camerashot Chrome Extension another in SaveFromNet helper, along with Ad Blocker. I cleaned, rebooted browser, but they returned. I deleted these two extensions (which I do use to some degree).

My browser is now clean, thanks. I might try re-enabling extensions now that I know how to cleanse. It's also worth setting up Spotlight to include system files in search OS X: How to include system files in Finder search results - Apple Support

I tried to fix the problem with "offers4u" (offerz4u, top deal) with the software "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware". The software was recommended in other forums and on several support-sites. It didn't work and I got crazy.

But I found other recommendations. The software "Adware-Removal" from Bitdefender helped me to solve the problems with "offers4u".
