Can't edit titles in the new iMovie (Mavericks)

I drag ANY title onto the timeline, highlight the title event on the timeline, then highlight the text (or not), and I can't make ANY adjustments to ANY title (Standard, Expand, Reveal, etc). I'm stuck with white in the font of iMovie's choice in the position it wants.

The "T" icon is highlighted, which reveals all the adjustments that CAN be made, but they're all dimmed out. I'm not even trying the fancy titles, many of which I'm sure can't be adjusted.

I've already been to the Change the font, color, size, text style, or alignment of a title instructions, but it hasn't helped.

What on EARTH am I missing? This is incredibly frustrating.

Aside from this problem, I suppose it's too much to hope for that once I have a title in the size, color and font I like, that I can position it anywhere on screen that I want, or does that require a $300 upgrade to FCP?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I have the same problem. However, with the first couple of titles I worked on in a project, I used the small selection of text that is displayed in the Text dropdown window. I was able to centre it as I wanted, outline and colour it.

However, when I selected 'All Fonts' in the dropdown window, so as to select other fonts for other clips, I could work from there OK, and for colour, but could not go back to using the dropdown windows above the project window as they were all greyed out.

Then if you lose your 'All Fonts' list, I can't find a sensible way to get it back.

Fortunately, because the first titles worked, I can highlight them, go to 'All Fonts' again, and proceed in a not very efficient way. It is very difficult to make changes to font styles and size in this mode for some reason.

Workaround for font issue for iMovie (Mavericks).

Problem: Unable to change/edit default font when adding text to movie project.

Observation: Except for “Boogie Lights” and “Centered”, none of the Text templates allow change from the default.

Ah, but there is a work-around, I learned.

Solution:

1. Go ahead add your desired text title to the movie project.

2. Elsewhere in the movie project, add “Centered” Title.

3. Selected ‘Show Fonts…’ under drop down menu under the capital T for text/font editing.

4. font panel window will open

5. Then go back to your desired title and edit the text.

Observation: Cannot seem to edit the text size, but can change the font and color.

Aside: The other day I idled into an Apple Store with my friend to see about his laptop trouble. While he was being waited upon, I asked a random Apple person about this iMoive issue. He did not know the answer and went away to ask some one who might. He returned with this suggestion and we walked-through the solution.

Lesson learned: Sometimes it pays to ask.

I took some time to work through the titles and found that the ones in the middle are very editable. Font, size, color, justification (also in same title) are changeable. It's like been said here several times. Skip themes and duplicate an old project and clear the old movie content or copy title from desired to get the consistent appearance of your films. I never use the themes, can be removed afterwards under project settings, select project in list and proj. settings appear.

I have a test project where I can test what works and not, without jeopardizing any real work, very handy.

I'm not sure how consistent this answer is, but I've had it working reliably for me.

Cut and paste into the text box from any other application.

So for example... put in the text box you want in iMovie.

then highlight any text in, say, pages, or off an email... anywhere, it really doesn't matter.

on the preview screen in iMovie, double click the words - (Usually says NAME or TITLE HERE)

CMD V - or right click paste.

now all the text editing options should be available.

strange but, seems to be true.

ATTENTION ALL DUDES AND DUDETTES:

In order to change fonts and do any of the cool stuff we used to do with inspector, now you have to click on the big T - where all those gray icons are...

Then you will see the little font bar

Click on it and scroll all the way down past the fonts to see the SHOW FONTS... part

Click on that and our beloved font window pops up

Then, play as you like...

I can't even type a Title at all. I drag a title into place, double click it and there is no title to type. It says the text color is currently white, but if I change it to black, it still doesn't show the default text.

I cannot upgrade beyond Mavericks or I have to throw a good quality Canon large scale photo printer away as there is no new driver for it, beyond Mavericks.
