Can't edit titles in the new iMovie (Mavericks)

I drag ANY title onto the timeline, highlight the title event on the timeline, then highlight the text (or not), and I can't make ANY adjustments to ANY title (Standard, Expand, Reveal, etc). I'm stuck with white in the font of iMovie's choice in the position it wants.

The "T" icon is highlighted, which reveals all the adjustments that CAN be made, but they're all dimmed out. I'm not even trying the fancy titles, many of which I'm sure can't be adjusted.

I've already been to the Change the font, color, size, text style, or alignment of a title instructions, but it hasn't helped.

What on EARTH am I missing? This is incredibly frustrating.

Aside from this problem, I suppose it's too much to hope for that once I have a title in the size, color and font I like, that I can position it anywhere on screen that I want, or does that require a $300 upgrade to FCP?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The first 16 titles are not editable. All titles after the first 16 are editable. Why Apple does what it does, I don't know but that's the deal. They change things because they can.

If anyone has final cut pro, you can copy and paste fonts. You can also go to the finder window, select applications, locate the new iMovie. Next to it you may see a folder that says iMovie 9.0.9. Click on it, and run the old iMovie Version, and you will be able to do what you use to do with the old iMovie that you cant do with the new iMovie.
