I'm having the same problem on a MBP from late 2012, 2.9 GHz i7, 8 GB RAM, no SSD, Mavericks 10.9
I'm only having these problems for several days now - it never appeared earlier.
Plus I can only access the dock by clicking at the bottom of my screen.
First I thought of some software issues but then I discovered that the problem only appears when using my 27" Thunderbolt Display.
If I start my MacBook without a Thunderbolt Connection everything works very well. No lags, no problems with the dock. If I then plug-in my Thunderbolt Display, the lagging appears.
If I plug it out again, the lagging stays!
If I reboot with plugged in Thunderbolt Display, the system lags from the beginning.
Can someone confirm?
hi JohnB12
I thought I had solved this issue, but it turns out that not...
the problems persists...
I have tried all kinds of methods: disk permission repair, PRAM reset, SMC reset....
but nothing works... the dock still lacks, and which is worse, the upper menu bar is invisible very often at startup...
so i have to restart the macbook pro again....
someone tried erase and install, but I can't do that now....
if someone else has a real solution to this...
please kindly post....
I have a Macbookpro 13" retina with 16gb ram and 256 ssd, late 2013 with mavericks, the doc started lagging after I started using the apple tv for mirroring.
I tried a lot of solutions (without reisntalling the OS) but I couldn't solve the problem.
At the end, I started Autocad 2014 and surprise, the lagging stopped.
I have no idea why, but it worked.
Thanks!
Update 10.9.1 seems to have fixed this issue for me...
Not for me unfortunately....
I'm honestly sad some issues are still not fixed....
Running AutoCAD worked!
That's weird! 🙂
When your computer first boots and you click safari, does it bounce up and down a lot?
Once your computer first boots, find a photo and two finger click it and go open with, are the app icons missing (they are set to default that is, and not the proper icon) but if you click elsewhere and click the photo again, go to open with, are the proper icons now there?
If you have autocad, you should try opening up the application and it will fix your problem. Other people have attempted this method, and was a success for them. I had autocad, and it also worked for me. I don't know the reason behind why it does, but it works.
try opening terminal and pasting - defaults write com.apple.dock autohide-time-modifier -int 0
press enter
type- killall dock
and press enter.
If you do have a lack of memory this won't work, but now the dock will open instantly (hence integer 0)
