audio not working on retina macbook pro 13" (late 2013) after sleep

I have a brand new 13" retina macbook pro (late 2013) running OSX mavericks. The audio stops working after I wake the computer up from sleep.

Things I have already tried:

Putting it to sleep by closing the laptop, or by pressing the power button, or by using the menu option.

Using headphones, both before and after sleep, and plugging in and out afterwards.

Pressing mute or using the menu volume controls

Using the audio MIDI setup

Having programs open, specifically itunes or other AV programs. ie everything has been normal and I've tried it with everything closed.

Restarting the computer does fix the issue but only until I put it to sleep again.

well, it looks like it is still happening to me after a brief hiatus. It only happens when my mbp goes to sleep with my headphones pligged in though. awaken from sleepmode without headphones does not break the sound.

Yes! I'm having the exact same problem. I can even recreate the bug again and again. Hope we get a fix soon.

I have the same problem too. My macbook pro with retina (late 2013) loses sound after sleep for while. I am wordering if it is related to my headphone pligged in during sleep or that I am using Boom as sound output. Does everyone still have the problem right now? Would Apple give any solutions on it as I am not the only one who have this kind of problem.

Have you tried resetting the SMC?

  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
  3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
  4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
  5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Note
: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

If that doesn't work, try resetting the PRAM

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
  3. Turn on the computer.
  4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
  5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
  6. Release the keys.

That fixes alot of audio, power, and battery issues.

Also, select the default outputs and inputs for your computer.

if you start using the 3rd party outputs and it happens again, contact the developer.

Hope that helped....

So your computer randomly sleeps after 3 minutes? is it exactly 3 or just somewhere between 2 and 5 minutes?

I'm sure you have, but check your Energy Saver settings as well as screen saver settings.

if you can, restore everything related to sound and power to defaults, and make sure you have no 3rd party apps that control sleeping, sound, etc.

at least as a temporary fix until somone smarter than me figures it out, try "No Sleep"

https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/37991/nosleep

Basically it forces the computer to stay awake, like a Monster energy drink for your mac

I used it when i was converting a ton of videos so i could keep it running overnight with the lid closed so the light didnt bother my sleeping 🙂

If none of this works, take it to the Apple Store. The guys that work at the Genius Bar are always friendly and super knowledgeable. Just call in to schedule an appointment.

Hope you get it fixed.
