audio not working on retina macbook pro 13" (late 2013) after sleep

I have a brand new 13" retina macbook pro (late 2013) running OSX mavericks. The audio stops working after I wake the computer up from sleep.

Things I have already tried:

Putting it to sleep by closing the laptop, or by pressing the power button, or by using the menu option.

Using headphones, both before and after sleep, and plugging in and out afterwards.

Pressing mute or using the menu volume controls

Using the audio MIDI setup

Having programs open, specifically itunes or other AV programs. ie everything has been normal and I've tried it with everything closed.

Restarting the computer does fix the issue but only until I put it to sleep again.

There is a solution for this audio problem... And its pretty easy.

All you got to do is to follow the steps, (I had the problem and it got fixed)

1) Shut down your macbook

2) When you hear the chime, press and hold (Command + Option + P + R)

3) Keep this holding until the macbook restarts twice (2 times)

4) And then let it go and boot up as usual...

5) Problems solved (atleast in my case)

I've been having the same problem for the last week. Bought my Macbook Pro retina 13" on November 21st. First I had issues with the volume fluctuating. Reset PRAM and all seems ok with that. But now, when I come home from work my audio doesn't function at all. Eventually (and for no discernable reason, it comes back on. Except for tonight.

As to the easy solution of reseting PRAM to fix this problem, it really isn't super easy. When your computer isn't making any sound, it's difficult to hear the multiple chimes.

Sorry if the mention of hardware was taboo.

Read up a couple posts. I was having the same problem. I was explaining how my problem was solved. But definitely DON'T try running a hardware test. It can only be a software issue, people.

In all seriousness, you're probably right that it's software that's to blame. Very possible my MacBook had both a software and hardware issue.

I found this thread because my sound kept going out. Restarting the computer worked for a little while, but then it would happen again.

Turns out I was bluetooth connected to my living room's sound system from when I was listening to music, and it kept pairing with it there. Disconnected from it in the bluetooth menu and it started working right away.

Maybe someone else is having the same problem, so I thought I'd mention that here. Good luck!

Yea, I'm having the same issue as many of you. When my earphones are plugged in and I wake my macbook pro, my sound doesn't work. This problem is a huge issue especially because my macbook goes to sleep every 5 minutes. I'm not sure if it's a hardware issue since the sound works fine normally. There's probably a bug with the software.

I'm really disappointed that this is happening since I this is my first Apple product after I refused to use a Windows 8 and switched over. This is a new macbook pro late 2013 13' with retina display, running haswell, that I ordered back in November.

Apple, please fix this problem soon!

Count me in - Late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro 15 inch.

I've only noticed this when headphones are plugged in (which is 98% of the time) - but maybe happens other times, too?

It doesn't occur that frequently, but when it does, the only solution is a restart.

Just tried resetting the PRAM - hopefully that'll work.

I just found a simple solution for this audio problem. I have 13" Retina Display that I bought 6 days ago.

Today is January 5, 2014.

Here is what I did (can't guarantee it will work all the time):

I pushed the power button once. The screen went black.

I pushed it again and the sound came back on immediately.

Good luck. I agree Apple software engineers need to fix this bug quickly.
