mavericks mail smart groups fail
When I attempted to use a Smart Group in addressing my mail nothing happens. A regular hard coded group works fine.

A workaround for sending an email to a group in Contacts, might be right-clicking on a group and choosing Send email to "{group name}".
That works, but having to open contacts and right click on the group is much harder than typing the group name in an email! I hope a fix is coming soon.
typing the group name in an email works.. just can't expand the group anymore.. once you send the email, it expands the group and delivers it to everyone in the group like before.. just can't see the contents of the group by expanding while editing the email before sending it out... ok, but a little annoying..
My smart groups do not appear, when I type the group name in an email-address box. Something more than annoying it disrupts my daily workflow.
As the latest update did not fix any of this, I am getting ðŸ˜
I also have build 1822 installed and I still have the same smart mailbox problems I did with build 1816 (some groups work completely, some work partially and some don't work at all). I even went to the trouble of re-creating several smart groups in my address book in an attempt to resolve the problem. 😠😠😠!
these 'contact - email' issues .. small they might be ... but they really upset my workflow and waste my time.. .. composing group emails which took tens of seconds now waste minutes doing tedious tasks.. come on apple sort this out .. listen to your loyal customers .. fingers crossed it is sorted sooner than later as its been going on for months.. :-(
I completely agree. I only down-loaded the new OS yesterday and within 10 minutes, these smart group contact issues were really annoying me and slowing down my work. PLEASE Apple fix these soon....very very annoying
It looks like Mavericks Software Update 10.9.2 solves this problem allowing smart groups to be entered by name in the To, CC, and BCC address blocks in Mail.
Not for me MacVA,
Smart Groups do not yet automatically resolve when the name of the Smart Group is typed into the address field.
What does work - I think differently, is that Smart Groups can now be dragged into the To:, CC:, BCC field in the email address bar.
I have customised the toolbar, (right click on Toolbar in Mail) and added in the Address Book icon, as described by a previous poster.
I click on the head and shoulders icon, and on the left is a list of my Smart Groups. I can now drag the selected Smart Group into the Address field in Mail and all the addresses are displayed. If I recall, this did not occur prior to updating to 10.9.2.
In my mind, this problem will only be fixed to my satisfaction when a Smart Group will automatically resolve when the name of the Smart Group is typed into the address field, and all the names will display.
My error.
Mail now DOES resolve smart groups simply by typing the smart group name in the BCC field.
Problem solved it seems. Thanks to Apple for fixing this..
Thank you APPLE, thank you!! for eventually giving us back the cross over features between Mail and Contacts (groups and soo on) which i missed soo much.. my stressless and speedy workflow has returned .. it pained me that you had in effect removed any real reason to use or be able to use the 'Contacts' app. ;-) regards MARK 😀
