Mouse and keyboard freezing up in Mavericks. What do I do?

Since switching to Mavericks, while working in Ableton Live, Adobe Premiere and other programs on my 27" 2013 iMac, my mouse cursor will dissappear and keyboard will cease working, except when I push cmd-option-escape. Pushing that brings them both back. Any insight here?

I have one USB hub that causes this. I have an Apple keyboard and a Logitech Wireless (USB) and they BOTH dropped sporadically when connected to that hub. I finally had to go back to my Belkin hub, to get around it.

My mouse and track pad are Bluetooth, but with Audition, I lose my cursor when saving files. It's something that's happened in WIndows and Mac since CS5 though, so it's an Audition (Adobe) interface problem, I believe.

I reset my PRAM and it didn't help with the other hub, so I figured it was hardware related, because once I switched back to the other hub, the Keyboard problems went away.

This is happening to me as well. It is getting really frustrating. It's way worse for me because command-option-escape wont do anything my 13 macbook pros trackpad (also happens with apple's wired mouse) and keyboard completely become unresponsive after about 10-15 minutes of working in Ableton Live which makes me have to force-shut down my computer with the on/off button. My session keeps running, and there is still sound but there is no way of controlling anything. This happened to me with Ableton Live 9.0.3 and also Ableton Live 9.0.6 ever since i upgraded to Mavericks. Hope this gets fixed by either the new Ableton Live 9.1.0 update or with a very needed Mavericks update

This is exactly my problem as well, c'mon Apple! Also, when I open Ableton I get a "ReWire requires Open Transport" Warning.. Click through, works for 10-20 minutes then the program stalls and the entire system is frozen.

This is incredibly frustrating! The last time apple upgraded the OS they essentially rendered my audio interface obsolete after YEARS of flawless performance, and now this. Can we please get an OS upgrade that doesn't wipe out our system configurations and render our software unusable? How about less hype and more testing. I pay a healthy premium for Apple products because they tend to "just work".

Hard rebooting my laptop every 20 minutes is not "just working"

Yes, i have same problem (MBP 15" Retina 2012 Mid) with OS X Maverick in Live 9.0.6

After 5-10 minutes work in Ableton Live all devices: keyboard, touchpad and external 2 mouses freeze 😟 Work is simply impossible, for live performances do not even think it's full of a nightmare I can not remember what happened to it on the previous OSX (((

I have one solution: Don't use zoom with mouse, use key "-" and "+" for zooming.but it is a half measure.

P.S. Yes of course I reinstalled the system and a lot of programs for 2 days on a completely clean SSD but the problem remains

I'm having this exact same issue on a 27" 2013 (1 week old) iMac after upgrading to Mavericks. All input devices (bluetooth keyboard, mouse, trackpad and hard wired USB keyboard) stop responding to input. Haven't tried the force quit shortcut to see if that remidies it.

I know that Apple have released a fix for people with MBP having this issue (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5296), seems the same issue has yet to be fixed for the iMac.

My Mouse and Keyboard (Both Hardwired and Apple products) keep freezing on me on my Brand New iMac, on Mavericks.

I can't type in the CMD-OPT-SHIFT-ESC since the keyboard freezes too.

Any one know what is causing this? Seems to be fairly randome for me.

I CAN log in and control it all fine remotely through Team Viewer though, is the wierd part, just not from the computer itself. Keyboard and mouse are brand new...

C'Mon Apple help us out here?

Since installing Mavericks, I lose functionality of my bluetooth peripherals often too. Forutnately so far, it's only one peripheral at a time, so i can use one to fix the other by following these steps.

When my bluetooth keyboard quits working, I use the mouse/trackpad to do the following:

click  (top left corner of screen) > System Preferences... > Bluetooth

When Bluetooth settings come up, mysteriously it toggles the functionality of my keyboard again!

When my bluetooth mouse/trackpad quit working, I use the keyboard to do the following:

cmd + space (to bring up spotlight, top right corner of screen) > type the word "bluetooth" > use down arrow to select "System Preferences: Bluetooth" > then hit enter

When Bluetooth settings come up, it toggles the functionality of my mouse/trackpad again.

Hope this helps.
