Email Folders gone after Mavericks update. -2

After updating to Mavericks I am noticing I have lost a pretty large folder and I have no idea how to get it back. As you can see, I still have it inside of my library folder. Also, I already tried mailbox rebuild, but so far NO LUCK. Any ideas?

I'm no expert, just trying to be helpful. I would put the mbox folders back the way they were and then try to import them to a new Mail Account. You've already tried rebuilding the indexes without success so I wouldn't do anything more with them. Also, do only one change at a time so you can revert changes where necessary. 😕

Mail | Preferences | Accounts tab | + sign bottom left, add new account. Create a brand new, clean account then do File | Import Mailboxes | mbox format and point the file browser at your old mbox file that contains the messages you want. I would expect this to import the messages and create new indexes, etc. for the new mailbox. If successful, you could then delete the old, corrupted stuff and start afresh.

After reading this post http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=884992 I pulled down a backup from Jungle Disc and manually Imported them back into Mail using http://www.mailsteward.com/download.html

Extract Backup

  1. Import mbox folder into MailSteward
  2. Export mbox folder to a tmp directory on the desktop
  3. Import mbox folder from tmp directory into Mail
  4. Repeat

I have switched to using Fastmail.FM now. I never want to deal with this again.

where do i find

  • "Envelope Index"
  • "Envelope Index-wal" and
  • "Envelope Index-shm"

I do a file search and I get no results

my problme is after installing Mavericks over Snow Leopard when I opened Mail I had to re-set up my accounts - once i did this the mail send & receives etc

but most of my mail folders are missing - there are only five folders appearing out of about 20 mail folders that were there previously - but the ones that have re-appeared are empty anyway

also the inbox & outbox are empty (there were 100's of email in each of them)

this is my backup laptop that I use for travel and there were some important emails in the inbox that I really need access to

any suggestions???

it's weird I can't find it

there is no Mail folder in my Library folder nor in the System/Library

if I do a finder seacrh for MailData I get nothing found

the only V2 folder i can find is part of some shopoping cart software i have

(oh yeah - I probably should mention here that I don't have a recent backup)

it's only a few days email that I really need - the majority of my mail is all still on my desktop (which Maverick will be going nowhere near for the moment!)

good to know i wasn't alone, i lost massive chunks of locally stored emails, turns out upon upgrading my mail database mavericks decided to create extra folders and store some emails in these folders so when i opened them up in mail all i got was a subject with no content. repaired by moving the emails to my desktop and importing then moving them back to where they were supposed to be.

the most common things people want to use on a mac are email and the browser, if you mess up one of those things significantly then the rest of your product becomes untrustworthy by default.
