MacBook Air not wake up after sleep

Hi,

My MacBook Air(Mid 2012) can't wake up after sleep. I recently updated operation system to Mac OS X Mavericks and now after sleep mode screen goes black and nothing happens after this. Only thing that I could do is hard reboot by pressing power button and boot again. Do anyone have the same issue and suggestions how to fix this?

Thanks in advance

Dmitrii

Hi guys,

I guess I found the exact case... It seems that "not wake up issue" occurs if it is plugged and charging (orange color, not green). If it is fully charged and works on power adapter with green light there is no problem with waking up. Also if it is on battery power, there is no wake up issue.

Is this your case also...

I haven't figured out a pattern for the issue. It seems to do it - occasionally - whether plugged in or not. I tried an SMC reset but that didn't fix it.

There's something else as well, and it happened twice already so it appears to be a real issue.

It can resume from sleep apparently fine, allow entry to the password box, but refuse the password - even when typed perfectly carefully and accurately, as many times as I type it. It's surely the right password for the user as I only have one user.

Switching user changes the screen (using that screen turn animation) to an empty grey screen from which there's no coming back. It displays nothing and doesn't react to any input, the mouse cursor is not visible.

Leaving the laptop on, while in this state, will eventually cause it to reboot itself (with no user intervention).

This behaviour is new since Mavericks. It hasn't happened in the prior two years of ownership.

When I spoke with support at Apple, they recommended that I create a new user to see if this was system or user.

I did the new user but I can't work outside of my regular user for long.

It may have to do with check uncheck « suspend disk activity » in energy saver preferences since SSD is flash

Also, it could have to do with power nap

I had occurence with this in Mountain Lion. Bought the machine in september and migrate from a MacBook Pro 17" mid 2009

funny. this happens to me too. but i have NO macbook pro. i have a 2008 mac pro. same issue. since install of mavericks its a 50/50 chance of coming back from sleeping... i have a username/password login window though.

sometimes i hear the mac pro waking up without me initiating it either (disks start spinning) but going to black screen mode eventually. sometimes i can see the login screen but no interaction possible. just hanging there for a while. when hitting the escape key the screens (two of them) go black and nothing more to be done. the keyboard still works (the caps on/off green lamp reacts and switches back and forth).

once during black screens i was able to enter my password and it logged me in (on typing on a completely black screen without feedback, just assuming there was a login window which i couldn't see... and at that time i was right, it restored both screens fine).

the hardware works. has been working for long years. since mavericks though, not so much. a bit glitchy shall i say? i assume they don't test old configurations anymore... too much money piling up...

Bought my 2013 Macbook air (11") only last week. The very next day it froze after going into sleep mode - with keyboard illuminated. No response from trackpad or keys. Had to do hard reset. Took it straight back to Apple store who advied me to see how it goes.

For 5 days it woke as it should - with the keyboard illumination going off as it entered sleep mode and coming on (if room dim enough) when it woke. Suddenly, today, same freeze - keyboard lit, would not wake - hard reset again at the most inconvenient moment possible. Contacted Apple store (again) and they asked me to bring it in tomorrow with packaging/cables/receipt etc and will replace it with new one.

However, if the new one does it too, I'll ask for my money back - I really can't afford to have it let me down. Seems that the staff at Apple strive to be helpful, but seem to struggle to understand that problems like this can be more than a passing inconvenience - it can have a major impact on our work/business.

I have a MBP (early 2011) and am having the same issues. I upgraded from Lion to Mavericks.

Seems to be independent of the chargng state, simply doesn't wake up again after going to sleep. I boot from a VERTEX SSD, so maybe it isn't waking the SSD up in order to access the OS.

This is a pretty big blunder from Apple, like Strawb268 said above - more than just a small inconvenience, and for the price Apple charges for its products - an inconvenience that shouldn't exist!
