Problem not solved - my problem is not to 'hide/show' the side-bar. Of course, I know how to do this. The problem is that, when you click on the 'book' symbol on the favourites bar, the side-bar appears on the left, which is completely useless. In previous versions a screen as the one when clicking on 'edit bookmarks' appears, which is much more useful, as one has the full folder structure and the URL etc. visible.
I dont like it either...its too motion intensive to operate...and you need too much space...bad time and motion actions....Apple seems be getting worse at software everywhere you look...its either dumbed down or made big and clunky to suit tablets...they need to get back to designing computer software..not just having shiny trendy good looking appliances...Apple is sort of becoming a 'dumb blonde'..looks good but??...(I actually know some very smart blondes but its a good analagy)
For a start..how about right clicking in the Bookmark area should have a close bookmark list option..is that too simple?
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.
Go To Bookmarks (Between History and Window) and then click on hide Bookmarks. It shuld disappear tout suite.
Revert to Safari 5.1.x.
Simply go to "view" and hide "bookmark sidebar" OR "reading list," whichever one you have showing! That's it! Annoyed the poop out of me too!
I too want my full-page bookmarks display back, URLs and all with the bookmark folders shown on the righthand side. I'll keep watching this space to see if anyone finds the answer.
I agree with welfac and lamis1972. I want the old way back !!!!!
This worked for me! Clicked on Bookmarks at the very top, and toggle between Hide or Show. It makes both Bookmarks and Reading List go away. (I'm running Mavricks on MBP). THANK YOU!
Hey guys, that is simple, but the original question was 'how to prevent the side-bar from popping-up, when clicking on the bookmark symbo and have the history popping up (as it was in previous versions of Safaril' ... no one has found an answer to this yet.
AFAIK, that can't be done with Safari 5.1 and later.😟
So confused. I was talking about the MBP Retina, but I was ON the '08 MBP. In the middle of migrating to the new. Didn't realize I hadn't yet added my products. Can't fool you guys!
I didn't see the rest of the orig. question. Still learning....after 26 years of Apple machine. And I'm blonde. At least I've added a few of the latest products....and added an annoying flower. Now on to yet another problem.
Thank you so much. Perfect.
It's a mystery.
