left and right swipe not working on magic mouse since os x maverick

I removed batteries from mouse, and low and behold.........dumdada.... it worked!!

Oops, (put them back in again).

I have really missed not being able to swipe since the update of Maverick.

Shows what a shallow life I am living...sigh!

found this on line and it worked for me . i have been swipeless for quite a while and tried several fixes .

" Delete the following preference file:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist

Reboot.. and Viola! Swipe is working again.

NOTE: This will reset the Keyboard and mouse preferences."

I was having the same lockup in Safari when trying to use the Magic Mouse gestures for page forward and back. What was odd was that the lock up was only for a given tab in Safari.

After trying several of the suggestions in this thread without getting rid of the problem, I decided to install the BetterTouchTool mentioned in an earlier post. Once I had the app installed and configured, I have not seen the problem again.

Sometimes the easiest fix is the hardest to find. My right-left swipe function stopped after installing Mavericks. All it took to fix was to discover the mouse preference had changed automatically with the upgrade so that the swipe feature was no longer checked.

In System Preferences > Mouse > More gestures, be sure it is still checked.

Exact same issue. Safari tab locked up when I swept magic mouse left or right and the tab and was "stuck" with about 1cm of "whitespace".

Installed and ran BTT and problem immediately went away.

The Swipe between pages feature is freezing with the Magic mouse and the Magic Trackpad.

I am experiencing a bug in Mavericks with my Magic trackpad and the Magic mouse. This bug comes and goes and is very sporadic. When it happens I am usually in a browser like Firefox or Safari, or in iPhoto. Anything that uses the Swipe between pages feature usually locks up, and on top of this it locks the scroling up and down function in the browsers and in iPhoto. The only thing that makes these functions work again is to reeboot or turn off bluetooth and turn it back on. I see that many people are having this problem in other posts, and I am just wondering if Apple is actually working on this bug or has somebody found what trigers this bug and do they have the fix for it?

I had the same issue like most people: on Mavrick 10.9.3 (MacBook Pro), my Magic Mouse with Swiping between pages on Safari kept freezing! Very frustrating. So I just performed the following fix:

1) Closed all programs and left Safari open and System Preferences open.

2) Go to System Preferences > User & Groups > Login Items tab and selected third part programs to delete (using the [-] button)

3) Then went to Username > Library > Preferences and delete com.apple.systempreferences.plist

4) Restarted computer

5) After logging in, I opened Disk Utility and selected My Harddrive and chose Repair Disk Permissions.

6) After waiting to finish that, check that the swiping between pages feature is on in the System PReferences > Mouse menu

7) Opened Safari and tested - BAMM! works like new.

Let me know if that solved/fixed your computer.

Swipe between pages in Safri is working for me with Magic Mouse, I just tested.

In System Preferences > Mouse > More gestures, be sure it is still check marked.

What happens if you log into your Guest account and set the swipe?

Interesting, I just test what macjack said, and it worked perfectly on the guest account.

Any solution?

I've checked and it's enabled. The problem now is intermittent, sometimes it appears, sometimes not, which makes it even harder to find a solution.

Same for me. At first, it wasn't checked, so I did check it. It worked for a couple of days, but now, just like you, it freezes. It wasn't doing it 10 minutes ago.

can fix it temporary only with restarting my macbook.

Try to set "always" in Preference>general>show scroll bar>set always
