How to get rid of flickering in Safari 6.1 ?

Safari 6.1 on Lion OS X 10.7.5

This update brought flickering: a grey rectangle that flashes up for a fraction of a second above some area. It seems to be connected to JavaScript and/or CSS positioning as I experience it on several webpages where sidebar/page elements are made to scroll to the top of the window and stick there while the user continues scrolling down the page. It's not happening when JavaScript is deactivated.

Disabling plugins and extensions brought no difference. Cache cleaning and permissions repair didn't help either.

We are developing a large, modern Single Page JavaScript Web Application at the company I work and are finding that this flickering is extremely prevelant in the latest iOS versions of Safari's - Desktop Safari does not suffer with such problems.

What is also interesting is that after downloading Chrome onto our iPads and iPhones the flickering is still apparent.

We have customer's who will be using iPads to use our application and it's concerning that this issue has still not been addressed.

From a development point of view it seems to be an issue with the JavaScript engine on iOS devices as the issue is not limited to iOS Safari.

Any advice on this would be appreciated, has anyone else experienced similair issues? Has this issue supposedly been addressed already? I know that the CSS fixed positioning bugs are still in the latest iOS Safari so I don't hold much hope that this will be addressed soon.

Rich
