QTKitServer Safari Web Content
Just had a look at activity monitor and found the following:
Does anyone know the reason for this? Safari itself is working normal, apart from random spinning wheel...
Kind regards,
MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

sorry but i can't find your bug report..(
THANKS
Just to let you know, for me the culprit was "ClickToFlash"-Extension even with it's currently latest version 2.9.1.
This is on Mavericks with 10.9.1 installed.
Maybe the plugin's flash-blocking works in a way that it causes the QTKitServer to hang.
I removed the plugin and Safari works alright now, haven't had problems anymore after that.
I complete erased the HD and reinstalled Mavericks and still have that problem
The culprit is not Clicktoflash for everyone. I don't even have any extensions installed, and I still have QTKitServer not responding every so often in Activity monitor. I've also heard of people wiping their whole hard drive, reinstalling Mavericks and still having the problem. This problem also is not only associated with Safari Web Content. It occurs in other applications as well. It's got to be a bug in Mavericks.
Yep. I've heard of people doing that, too. They have totally wiped their hard drive, reinstalled Mavericks and still have the QTKitServer not responding in Activity monitor occasionally. I just don't know the answer. Apple can give me no answers. However, there's no way I'm going back to OS X Mountain. I'm just hoping there will be a bug fix in later updates of OS X Mavericks.
Yep, seems to be non-extension related. I fooled around a bit with it and seems it's triggered by certain websites which I did not visit during testing.
I found one website which seems to trigger this often for some reason, Helsingin Sanomat - newspaper 😀
If I open safari to http://www.hs.fi/ it will immediately launch QTKitServer process, this does not happen with other web sites though what I've used regularily so seems I missed the effect.
If HS page is open for couple of minutes, the QTKitServer process will go red and go to "Not Responding" state.
This bug seems to have been resolved in 10.9.2.
I hope you're right. I haven't noticed it happening since I updated to 10.9.2. So far, so good. 🙂
I think it's solved. Has anyone seen" Safari not responding" instead ?
No red process so far. Looks good!
Feels good.
It was good to give the glitch a voice!
cheers
WOOHOO! I no longer see "red"...10.9.2 seems to be working. I can now stop my endless calls Apple Support. THANK YOU!!!!
Yeah. It's been hours. I see the QTKitServer continuing to respond, and the process hasn't failed. It keeps hanging in there. It's just sitting there in the black. I think they probably fixed it. I don't know what they did, but it looks like it's working great! I'm just keeping my fingers crossed. I love OS X Mavericks. It's the best OS Apple's ever made. 🙂
