usb3 drive disconnecting all the time at a usb 3 port on my macbook pro

i just bought the new macbook pro 13 inch and i was into some point tricked because the salesman from apple assured me that the laptop would be shipped with mountain lion and i could do the upgrade for free for maverick. so when i recieved the computer i found out that it actually came with maverick intalled and after talking to an apple customer support he said i could not go back to mountain lion. so most of my software are damaged according to the new system and it simply doesnt let me open many apps i just installed.
so now i have another bigger problem. everythime i connect a usb 3 HD into my new macbook, the HD gets disconnected. i used already 3 diferent drives and tried at least 3 diferent cables but the problem persists. Note that it never happenned with a usb2 port. is anyone having the same problem?
at this point i am pretty upset with the company alltogether. i had purchased at least 30 macs and i never had any sort of problems till now.

I have the same problem! Relatively new 27" iMac (late 2013). Unfortunately both of my external USB drives are USB 3.0 so they do not stay mounted at all. Sometimes it's ok but most of the time my USB 3.0 drive is unmounted within minutes of getting it re-mounted - so it is useless.

I can connect another external monitor - which is older and only has USB 2.0 ports and the drive stays mounted with no trouble, but sometimes I need to use the monitor for my work machine.

I wish Apple would fix this problem. It's pretty bad. 😟

I'm also experiencing the same problem. I got a MacBook Pro two months ago and just tried connecting a USB 3 to SATA drive enclosure. There's no software. It's supposed to be plug and play. The problem is obviously with the mac's software because I'm not disconnecting it and there's nothing running but the OS. 30 seconds to a minute and the drive disappears from my desktop and a message appears;

Disk Not Ejected Properly

Eject "name of drive" before disconnecting or turning it off.

Hi everyone i have been sufering this problem with usb 3.0 with windows and now mac, i just "resolved" the issue using and usb 2.0 hub as bridge. Im buying a thunderbolt hub, the belkin one, in the next days and im going to try using as the bridge maybe that way the issue can be solved and we can maintain the fast troughtpout ok newer conection types. This is very bad for apple, im an apple fan boy a they most come up with a solution for this. I haven tried the card reader and hdmi out of my MBPr 13 late 2013 yet but im hoping for they to work fine. Has anyone had issue with those ports?

Apple is not here. Some Apple people are reading posts here and they may respond, but the company itself is not. This is strictly a users-to-user forum.

Do not connect to USB with a hub, make sure that the disk gets enough power from the USB port, there should be an external power cable with the external housing, if there is a "double headed" cable with the external housing, be sure to connect the disk connector and the 'power' connector both to both usb ports.
