Can't Install Windows in Boot Camp - Windows Driver Issue

Before update to Mavericks, I had an installation of WIndows 7 running in Bootcamp. I had updated this to Windows 8.

Just prior to Mavericks release, the hard drive in my MacBook Pro started to fail. I had a full backup of the OS X partitiion, but did not have one of Windows.

After the drive was replaced, I did a fresh install of Mavericks and I'm planning on doing new installs of my apps over the coming days. (It's an opportunity to clear-out remains of old apps/OS's.) I have hit a wall with Boot Camp, though:

I used the Boot Camp Assistant to download the driver sets ("Windows support software") to a USB stick and partition the HD. However, although the Mac then boots off the Windows 8 (64-bit) installer DVD I can only get as far as choosing the installation language before I get stuck on the next step where it's looking for missing drivers. At first, I thought this was some reference to the ones downloaded from Apple, but I am now pretty certain that these just get installed after [in] Windows to allow access to the Apple hardware.

I have tried installing Windows 7 and get hung-up at the same point (which did not happen on 10.8).

Does anyone have any insight into what's happening and how I can get around the problem please?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9), 8GB RAM

@Kennygwood - I'm definitely using the x64 version (I tried both anyway just to triple check I wasn't crazy 😕)

@Bernard - my original was an officially purchased version, while the subsequent files were old official "trial' versions of the various system - the goal here was to just get it installed and then upgrade to non-trial because I have a valid authentication key. Rargh!

I've resorted to ordering a CD of the software and going into the apple store to borrow a superdrive for the afternoon. CD should arrive next week...I'll let you know if this works.

@Bernard and Ian I don't know if you already solved the problem but I got the same problem as you guys and was able to solve it... here is what I did.

Follow the instructions here http://sampower.ie/windows-7-on-mavericks-via-bootcamp-and-usb/ on the point where you have already created the windows install usb thumb drive... first thing is to remove other devices thats plugged into the usb ports then plug the usb drive (windows installer) to the macbook pro... open bootcamp assistant then start the installation and thats what I did and it went through... it did not get stuck on searching for the drivers... after you select the language. I am not sure if removing the other usb devices helped but thats what I did... I had the apple wired keyboard plugged into one of the usb ports before when I was getting that problem of the missing drivers. Hope this helps!

I was having this same issue on a Late 2013 27 inch I just bought, and this is what fixed it....

So, apparently the reason it is unable to find a driver to support the partition is based on the formatting of the Windows partition from boot camp assistant. (Which obviously appears to be off)

Whenever it is promoting you to select the main partition in the windows installer, highlight it (should be the fourth one (or the biggest)) and select format. This formats the partition (properly) to NTFS and will allow you to then use the partition to continue with the install.

Hope this helps anyone still having the problem.

To help others:

This problem has been perplexing me for a week, trying to Install some version of Windows 7 64 bit on to a Mac Pro 1,1 (original 2006(2007?) version that had an Intel Xeon dual core).

Two major problems I had:

1. I would get to a "1. 2. Select CD-ROM Boot Type:" freeze problem which I solved like this: http://glennstevenson.com/Blog/TabId/1115/PostId/4/Install-Windows-7-64-Bit-On-M ac-Pro.aspx

2. The second problem was this one in this discussion thread, which was the "looking for drivers" problem. I finally figured out it was probably due to the installation DVD I was using which was Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise edition which I downloaded. Instead I got a copy of the Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (you can find it online, I shouldn't explain how but if you know how to peer-to-peer you should be able to find a 64 bit version of this edition) and I was able to do a full installation without any errors of Windows 7 ultimate on a Mac Pro 1,1 !!!

Thanks for your help all, and good luck to the next one!

Note: I followed various solutions simultaneously and I don't know if it helped, but I did take out the Western Digital HD and used diskpart on a windows computer to clear it (quick) and partition it with an NTFS (quick) formatted partition. I also took out the Mac HD in the macbook pro, and only had the windows 7 ultimate dvd in the superdrive. Finally, I tried to get the enterprise dvd to work even with a non-apple usb/mouse, it didn't matter it never worked, go with a fresh fully loaded windows 7 ultimate dvd which you downloaded as an ISO, and then repackaged it and burned in on to a fresh dvd following Glensteven's solution in the link i provided above. Good luck, it works. (The reason I knew it was possible was because the 32 bit version of the Windows 7 enterprise DVD did work to a full installation, only the 64 bit enterprise iso was having this driver issue... i wanted the 64 bit because the 32 bit version of Windows 7 only had access to 2Gig of RAM as oppposed to the 16 I had installed).
