I've tried all means i can find in the internet and the last resort Worked.

The last resort > Freezer.

Leave the iphone turn on, placed it in a ZipLoc bag, removed excess air in the bag, place the ziploc bag with iphone in it into the freezer for 5min, after 5 min take it out immediately reboot with the HOME and the SLEEP button pressed down untill you see the the apple bootup icon. Vola! Wifi is backed.

WiFi radio chips on iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 – and sometimes – iPhone 5 running new firmware version may overheat. As a consequence to the iOS being able to switch off hardware features on the iPhone, the WiFi chip will automatically be disabled once it overheats. Once the chip is disabled, the WiFi on your iPhone appears as greyed out.

This is horrible. This is my 3rd iphone 4s since Feburary of 2012 (so less than 2 years) because they keep malfunctioning. I have had this one only a week and the wifi hasn't worked in 4 days. I can't turn it on. it's grayed out and my batter life is only lasting for a couple of hours. This absolutely blows. I'm seriously thinking about switching. They should have never went to the ios 7. There were so much less problems prior to that update. Way to go Apple.

Well I didnt try any freezer or the hair dryer thing, but automatically my iPhone 4S was working alright. It happened automatically but my joy lasted only a day as all the problems came back today 😢. I dont know why its so hard for apple to admit that its the iOS issue instead they start saying you must have dropped your phone to cause the damage 😠

Same problem here.....upgraded my iphone 4s to 7.0.4 when it came out and aside from the rapid battery drain, its been working fine until today (jan 1, 2014). The wifi settings is greyed out and cannot turn on. I took it to apple store and was immediately told its a hardware issue and the phone needs to be replaced. Since I'm out of warranty, I'd have to pay in excess of $200 for another phone. What a load of BS.

I'm glad that I found this post and tried the overheating solution and it worked. Wifi is working again. Thank you so much.

Very very disappointed in Apple. If this is truely a result of upgrading to ios7, then iphone 4s users should (at the very least) be given the option to downgrade to ios6.

My next phone will certainly NOT be an iphone.

With one month to go on my one year warranty (had an iPhone 3G for 3 years with absolutely no issue), the wifi turned off last week. Visited the Genius Bar on Saturday and received a replacement phone, today is Monday and the wifi died again. Tried the freezer trick and it worked but seems like a temporary solution more than anything else. Will make an appointment at the Genius Bar for later in the week and will most definitely make sure that this extends the warranty on the phone.

It can't be the software update. It's like this all happened all at once with all of the 4s's. I use to jailbreak my phone and while it was jailbroken, I couldn't update my phone at all. I was still on ios 6 while everyone else was on ios 7. This happened while I was on ios 6. Right as soon as this problem occured, I quickly looked up the solution and found out that there wasn't one and it seemed like everyone else who had the 4s had the same problem except they were using the ios 7. Once I unjailbroke my phone and updated it, I still had the problem, but the point of this reply is just stating that it might not be the software update.

Nobody knows what the problem is, I have been facing this issue since the day I updated to iOS 7.0.3. Thought iOS 7.0.4 would resolve it but that didn't happen. Also I didn't try any of the unorthodox methods like hair dryer or keeping phone in freezer, but I have noticed that once in every month the problem resolves and everything is working normal till I restart the phone (or the phone switches off because battery died) and on turning the phone on wifi button is greyed out, full charged battery drains out in 2-3 hours (even on standby 😐), stock apps like phone, messages and settings app get laggy, so its clear that its a software issue. 2 days back my issue resolved on its own, lets see how long that happyness is going to last. But hey, they fired Scott Forstall as he didn't apologise for Apple Maps blunder, we are still waiting for an apology atleast, if they are not resolving iPhone 4S issues around the world. Come on Tim Cook, now fire someone 😠
