iMessage Notifications Delayed

Whenever I receive an iMessage from someone, I don't get notified until about 3-8 minutes later. Messages will say the text was delivered at (for example) 2:38, but I won't be notified about it until 2:44. Any idea why this may be?

I've tried reactivating iMessage and I've tried restarting my phone. I may restore it when I get home tonight, but I'd like to see if there are any other solutions before I do so. Thanks.

Hey everybody,

I have the same issue with delayed iMessage with my new iPhone 5s in Germany as well. My network is Vodafone, so it seems to me that it is an international problem...

I had the issue with iOS 7.0.3 and also today with the new update with 7.0.4. I haven´t realized the problem with 7.0.2 and before, but maybe it was there as well. It wasn´t there was my old iPhone 4s, even with iOS 7.X.X.
I also have an iPad 2 and with the iPad I get iMessage normally and without delay. I also deactivitaed iMessage on the iPad, but still the same on the iPhone: iMessages notifications are delayed up to 15 Minutes.

I also think it might be an network operator problem, maybe Vodafone will issue an update of the network settings, at the moment it is 15.5.

Sorry it's been awhile since I've been on the forum.

I tried to change the APN settings manually but had no luck. iMessage sends instant notifications for a short while after I restart my phone or turn Airplane mode off/on. But, it shortly reverts back to its old, devilish self.

I think it's interesting that jeffla mentioned people on Verizon who were having the same problems. So, this makes me wonder... Is it Apple's problem with iOS 7.0.3 in which case 7.0.4 (which I upgraded to today) should fix it? I would think that there would've been more, bigger discussions about this already, but so far, we're the only 5 that have the problem (or so I've read... or not read).

Like I said above, I upgraded to iOS 7.0.4 today and hopefully that'll fix the problem. I haven't noticed a delay in any of my other applications, which is why I'm holding out hope for iMessage, but that doesn't mean they're not there.

I still have my old 4S and I'm considering going back to it until this is fixed (even though I will greatly miss LTE and the A6 : ( )

Only time will tell, I guess.

Yeah, iOS 7.0.4 seems to have made it worse...yay.

danimal10242, so you had the same problem on iOS 6 even when the problem didn't exist on iOS 7.0.2? Now I'm really starting to consider another carrier... This along with several other problems are just plain annoying. $12 more is looking mighty tempting right now... Just out or curiosity, is the coverage/data speed any better? I know they're both supposed to run on AT&T's network, but is the GoPhone plan better than ST/Net10?

Yeah I didn't have any issue on 7.0.2 but it could've been happening on 7.0.2, when I was on that ios I was traveling by car quite a bit so i wasn't really paying attention to any of that, but yes it was on 7.0.3 and on ios 6 that I was experiencing the same issues and both softwares was tested on 2 different iPhones. The speed is much better, imessage and FaceTime validate within seconds and imessage/picture sending is way faster, download speeds are increased by 2mbps, upload by .10mbps, better 4g service on my 4s, for instance I attend an air traffic control simulation course in long beach ca and I'm getting 4g with more bars, with net10 I was on edge and 2 bars. My brother has a Nokia lumia 920 or whatever it is and he's in NorCal as is experiencing bad signal coverage, this has never happened with him before using net10. Do the gophone plan, try your best to transfer your net10/st phone number, I couldn't do it because I didn't have all the correct information to give the att rep. But go with gophone it's much better.

So... I was playing around with my phone tonight and put it in DFU mode. iTunes asked to restore and update my phone, so I clicked "ok." My phone restored and "updated" to iOS 7.0.4 (even though it was already running iOS 7.0.4). When it came time to set up as a new iPhone or Restore from Backup, I noticed my phone said "HOME" in the upper left hand corner. Sure enough, I am on the old carrier settings (AT&T 15.5) on iOS 7.0.4. iTunes asked if I wanted to update my carrier settings, but I declined.

So, whether this is a stroke of brilliance or a stroke of luck, I don't know yet... Will post results of iMessage/MMS performance soon.

Had an iPhone since the beginning of time. Never once had any iMessage issues...four weeks ago all of a sudden my messages all seem delayed and strange time stamp issues. I called apple and they suggested a full reinstall of the operating system. They also said it's a carrier issue...so I asked how is it a carrier issue if my cellular data is off and I'm on wifi and it's still delayed? She said good point and that I could bring it into the Genius Bar. I declined because I know that won't help anything, it's not a phone issue. It seems to be an issue with the iMessage service, possibly main carriers having a priority over prepaid. I think apple needs to figure it out since we are all obviously not making this up. There is a problem and I'd like to request acknowledgment that there is an issue and they are working a solution or admit some type of new carrier priority that lags prepaid users iMessages!

I'm ditching ST today. Going to pick up a go-phone sim card and see if it solves my problem. If it does the I will stay with gophone. Hope Danimal is right.

I'm right behind you Jeffla....after my next month is up AT&T prepaid here i come. I had lenghty email discussion with Jean from NET 10 over the weekend. It basically got nowhere.....the end result was since I was a BYOP customer that they can't troubleshoot the device and this statement;

"

Regarding your concern, we do not guarantee that all applications or features will work on your phone. Since our program called Bring Your Own Phone (BYOP) only adopted the "business phone model" method, thus, we cannot provide support for the phone itself. Updating the APN (Access Point Name) settings is not a guarantee that the iMessage will work. It is dependent upon the phone model's limitations

Funny it worked for over a year on ios 6.X and 7.0 and 7.0.1 and 7.0.2 with their APN settings and the SIM Swap method then came along their infamous TFW carrier update 15.6. What a co-incidence that everything stopped working properly. All I can say is what a joke!!

But the people who never did the SIM swap don't have to do anything now, except that the service is no longer reliable!!!
