Audio playback problems in Safari since Mavericks upgrade

I've been having intermittent audio problems in Safari ever since upgrading to Mavericks on my iMac.

Google Play Music doesn't make any sound at all in Safari. Works fine in Firefox.

Downloading audio clips/mp3 playback in Safari has intermittent clicks/pops & sounds terrible.

Tried installing latest version of Flash player...no help.

Everything used to be fine before upgrading to Mavericks.

What gives?

I just upgraded to Mavericks, and got this problem on audio from Bandcamp. Stuttering like an old 1995 128k MP3!

The plugin power box was already unchecked in my Safari prefs - so no joy there.

What worked for me, basically by good luck, was upgrading Safari to 7.0.4 from 7.0.3

But at the same time (sorry) I also went to Sys Pref / Flash and cleared Flash browsing data.

At this stage nothing had worked.....but after a reboot......Safari audio seems perfect again ....

Unfortunately I don't know if it was either, or or both.....
