mac osx 10.9 Mavericks wifi issue

Ok so Wifi is really starting to annoy now....

I have a 2013 Mac Air (about 1 month old). I upgraded to mavericks and now EVERYTIME the machine goes to sleep, i close the lid, whatever the wifi connection is shut down and on logging in again, the wifi doesn't connect. I have to manually turn off wifi and then turn on again before selecting my network (and usually needs 2 attempts).

This is unacceptable.

Does anybody else suffer from this issue? any ideas on how to fix it (other than reverting back to MLion - if that's even possible)

Thanks in advance for any responses

Kind Regards

Supersleb

preferences>network. If you have any other than Automatic at Location Tab, click Edit Locations and delete others. than on the left hand side at the same window selecf wi-fi and click at the left lower corner ( - ) button and delete. also delete blouetooth and others as well. than hit ( + ) button and add Wi-fi and others. on dropdown menu choose "Bluetooth PAN" for the Bluetooth. If you have thunderbold connection you should add it too.

This has been the most frustrating obstacle! Turning off Bluetooth seems to work at this point. It took a couple of seconds to reestablish the connection, but it used to take about a minute to discover that it couldn't connect. I would then have to re-select my access point and it would take a few seconds to connect at that point. My MacBook Air is a Mid 2012 13 inch with 8 GB ram. I'm running 10.9.1.

From this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5471457?start=300&tstart=0

Finally, after all these months, I have resolved my problem with the upgrade to Mavericks, the loss of functionality of my Time Capsule backup system and a bug-infested new version of iMovie:

Command R on restart!!! (known as System Restore)

This completely removed Mavericks, read my Time Capsule and restored my computer to my previous fully operative Mountain Lion OS and the previous functional iMovie!

Thanks fo the encouraging info, David. I have a late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro (10.91) that is maddeningly inconsistent about connecting to my home wifi network. Sometimes it will and sometimes, I have to manually choose my network or even turn wifi off and then back on in order to get it to connect. But a 2012 Mac Pro (Nehalem, also running 10.91) two old PowerMac G4s (10.4.11 and 10.5.8) have no problems whatsover. So, since my Mac Pro is also running 10.91, this may be a problem that's also specific to the Retina MacBook Pro in some way.

I finally upgraded to Mavericks and immediately started having WiFi connectivity issues. I didn't make the connection at first - I just kept re-setting my router and blaming Verizon. Then I noticed that my iPhone and other devices never had any problems. I Googled "Macbook wifi problems" and ended up on this thread straightaway. On the one hand I'm relieved it isn't just me, but on the other hand: seriously Apple? This long after the release and still a basic, pervasive issue, on an OS that relies on internet access more than any previous OS?

@hardbop I am in your EXACT situation. Late 2013 MacBook Pro (15" if that matters) 10.9.1 as well. I'm really hoping this can be fixed with software because some days when I am opening and closing the macbook many times throughout the day I just want to pick it up and throw it through the window. It's maddening. MADDENING.

I almost always have to disable wifi and re-enable before it will connect (occasionally it connects on its own but that is most definitely the exception rather than the rule). Sometimes I have to do it twice or even three times! When they design these things do they not test them? It sure seems like an obvious issue that should have been caught before release. Regardless, it's been FOUR MONTHS and still no fix. Shocker. I thought leaving Windows for Apple would be a fun experience but it's been nothing but disaster. Everyone complains about Windows 8 but I never had issues with Windows 8 failing to do extremely basic tasks like connect to wifi; and Windows has to support a variety of hardware configurations.

Apple, you control the hardware AND the software. FIX THIS PLEASE.

Nope it is not a hardware problem. Too many people have other fixes that have worked. And then too many other fixes have not worked. And there are multiple manifestations of it. Some get dropped while online and for others it is the wake up. Clearly it is software. I am beginning to think it has something to do with the power mamager software.
