mac osx 10.9 Mavericks wifi issue

Ok so Wifi is really starting to annoy now....

I have a 2013 Mac Air (about 1 month old). I upgraded to mavericks and now EVERYTIME the machine goes to sleep, i close the lid, whatever the wifi connection is shut down and on logging in again, the wifi doesn't connect. I have to manually turn off wifi and then turn on again before selecting my network (and usually needs 2 attempts).

This is unacceptable.

Does anybody else suffer from this issue? any ideas on how to fix it (other than reverting back to MLion - if that's even possible)

Thanks in advance for any responses

Kind Regards

I am having the same problem with Mavericks,

  • Macbook pro about 8 months old, WiFi worked seamlessly

    Upgraded to Mavericks before Christmas

  • Now everytime the machine resumes from standby it cannot connect to the Wifi connection

For info

I use an Apple iPad to connected to the Wifi connection to find fixes for the problem on the internet so i know its not my wifi connection, also have 3 other iPhones and 2 Android devices connected and they never have problems.

If Apple are not going to sit up and acknowledge this as being a problem can any one suggest a suitable forum we report it to ( Technical Magazine forum or similar) that way anyone considering buying one of these laptops may think twice, lets face it Apple are only going to fix it if they think it will affect future sales.

Regards

Nick

PS

Does anyone remember the early nineties when Microsoft used to have the same arrogant attitude towards its customers, its only a matter of time before Apple head the same way as Microsoft

I have a 2 month old retina MBPro that came w/Mavericks. Same problem as all you. When waking from sleep it loses WiFi connectivity (tho the display shows 5 bars of strength).

I talked to AppleCare in Nov. They knew nothing.

I reported the problem on the Developer website. W/in 24 hrs I got an email from the WiFi group asking that I run the WiFi diagnostic on the WiFi pulldown and send the resulting test output file, which I did.

Haven't heard anything since.

I called Applecare again this week. Again they seem to know nothing about it. I escalated and asked to talk to the WiFi group. A very helpful and responsive ACare guy took the time to get ahold of WiFi and then get back to me.

YES, WiFi know there is a problem. They are working on it. I was told by the ACare guy maybe by March or April. I said, please tell them that's along time from issuing Mavericks to a fix. I also asked him to tell his bosses they should at least tell the ACare reps there is a problem rather than leave them in the dark (like mushrooms).

Oh, let me add. Turning off Keychain syncing seemed to solve it BUT the problem did return a week or so later. Same for turning off Bluetooth. I have seen it happen with both OFF (as they are now OFF).

EVERY time I turn off WiFi and turning it back on, the problem is resolved for awhile at least.

It doesn't happen every time the rMBP goes to sleep. That's the odd part. Just often but no always.

The fix ALWAYS restores it, just not permanently.

When I turn bluetooth or keychain syncing back on the problem returns immediately with the next sleep.

I will keep repeating myself in this thread. If you can get transfered from Apple Care to Apple Wireless then you then things change. I have had multiiple converstasions with APPLE WIRLESS and each time they fully admitted h aving issues wtih this problem and are working on it and are expecting a fix. But I think they were hoping the fix would be in 10.9.1 and it was not. So my guess is they are and deep doo doo on this one.

Is everybody at AC really that dumb or is the problem only a small % of the 100s of thousands who have upgraded or are AC people told to say there is no problem.

The same problem for me with a brand new iMac 27" late 2013. Randomly lost the internet/lan connection.

I can't disconnect the bluetooth becuase the mouse and keyboard need bluetooth, but when it happens I turn off and on the wifi and solved!

I'm not very happy about a machine that costs about 2400 euros!!

I had a mac mini in the same place with Maverics but I didn't notice that problem at the time. I bought the iMac on December and from then the problem starts to appear.

Now the mac mini is in the different room, connecting via ethernet and without this problem, but the iMac continues with the problem.

Pretty much the only thing to do is to call Apple and raise a stink about it. If you do not have Apple Care support do not worry about it, this is covered under the software update warranty and they will talk to you. If everyone jumps on the bandwagon they will be forced to come up with a solution in a more expediant manner.

sw6lee,

Can you upload your System Information report someplace and I can take a look ? Do you have iCloud keychain syncing turned on ? If so , can you turn it off and check if the issue resolves ? I know you mention you need it, but try it as a debugging effort and check if it helps any. Once you turn Keychain off, also delete and re-add the network in your Pref. Network List.

Seems to me that maybe the only way to do this is to do a clean install of M.L. Wipe the hard drive clean and reinstall a clean M.L. Then use migration assistant to take you back to when you installed Mavericks. After that you might have to cherry pick what you migrate over if you dare. You might loose some data but gain you wireless back. Just a thought.

I recently took my old 2008 Mac Book on Leopard and maxed the ram and added a new solid state hard drive and then did a clean install of Snow Leopard. I then migrated over files from the time machine. Man that old Mac is running like a new machine. I love it. Everything works fast and I got rid of all the bugs. And I have the beloved 10.8.6. No reason to muck things up and go to Lion which is the best that machine can handle. Snow leopard is just fine thanks.
