Any advise, after intalling Mavericks my dvd/cd player quit working in my macbook pro.
hey I'm on maverick OSX and read that lion creates .plist.lockfiles
in my preference folder i don't have any lockfiles, so I'm assuming downloading a "com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist.lockfile" file and copying it to the pref folder is somethingthat shouldn't even be there to begin with
what OSX are you running
also can you send me a link to a "com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist.lockfile" file that i could download and try if it makes a difference, even your copy,
(if you delete/move it out of pref folder and insert a dvd will it create a new plist file and lock file along with it, thus creating a newer/fresher copy without too much of your info inside it would be better to send)
as i have deleted my dvd plist and it created a new one
Hi Starground
Like many others I have tried ways to try and fix this issue.
Could you please tell me where I can find a copy of the "com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist.lockfile" file. My searches have proved fruitless thus far.
Hoping your fix will work for me also.
I don't know if this will help, but my player quit before I installed Mavericks. How old is your computer? I couldn't even get the drive to accept my cd. So as a temporary measure I bought a VERY inexpensive USB external optical drive. It was okay, but I don't like external drives (as I have told APPLE feedback-not that anyone cares there) and then I ordered a new APPLE internal optical drive and had an independent person install it (because my computer is past the AppleCare policy) and I am very happy I did so. The question for you is, is your superdrive just warn out or is it a fixible problem. If you do not have a warranty on your computer, it may not pay and it will cost a lot less to order the part and replace it.
I had the same problem after a new installation of Mavericks on my iMac (late 2009).
After "repair disc permissinons" the dvd drive worked again just fine.

Reset the NVRAM/PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try again.
Alternatively, Reset the NVRAM/PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try the SuperDrive again.
@baltwo: Thanks. I Reset the NVRAM/PRAM and that resolved the issue for me.
Mac Mini (mid 2010), OS X Mavericks 10.9, 4 GB RAM
See Apple's document: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Thanks for the advise, but it unfortunately did not solve the problem. When I insert a disk it acts like it's trying to start but just can't, then it ejects the disk.
Then, it tirme for a trip to an Apple repair station.
I have a similar problem only my DVD player doesn’t work if my MacBook Pro is connected to a projector. I’m going to double check screen resolutions and see if that helps.
Mavericks installed on iMac 27" broke the internal DVD drive, too.
The drive was working minutes before.
Then, try a lens cleaning disc before abandoning the SuperDrive.
@MacFlyer84: Thanks for your contribution, it is seemingly an issue with Mavericks and the internal Superdrive.
