Contacts have disappeared from Iphone5s and the cloud. How do I get them back?

Some of my contacts, not all, are missing on my iphone 5s. I noticed this when I received a text from my mom and it came up as just her phone number, not her name. When looking through my contact list I noticed several of my contacts have vanished. The same ones are also gone from icloud and my macbook contacts as well. I recently switched from a iphone4 with ios6 to the iphone 5s. I transfered everything to my 5s using itunes and it worked great for a few days, but now I am missing so many contacts and I dont know what to do. The contact info is still on my 4, so I could go through and manually add them again, but how do I keep them from vanishing again? Please help.

Curli: I just had the same problem, or a similar problem and somehow solved it by doing this. (In my case almost all my phone contacts were gone from the phone list)

Go to the Contacts app on your iPhone. Hit "Groups" at the upper left. If it says "Hide all contacts", uncheck one of the items on the list, and then add a check again. Then hit "Hide all contacts", or "Show all contacts', whichever one appears, and re-click until "Hide all contacts" appears, with the items on the list checked. Leave it like that and hit Done and check your Contact and phone lists. They should be back again. I hope it works for you!

I lost all my contacts on my 5s. I know I didn't mess with anything at all but all contacts suddenly disappeared. I did exactly as Clyde77 suggested and it works! Thanks!
