Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?

Hi, I have just got a new ipad air today. I am noticing that the left side of the screen has a yellow tint. Should I take it back for a replacement?

iPad, iOS 7.0.3, Ipad Air

Just returned the iPad Air to the Store. Very courteous staff. Got a new box, same serial batch. Screen seems to be better. Not perfect by any mean but the yellow bar seems to be gone. If I no longer have that yellow bar, I still feel like the left is more yellow than the right that tends to be more in the purple color.

I've also noticed that the bottom left corner of the screen seems a little lest backlitted than the rest of the screen.

Will play with it and see how it goes.

Did some more digging comparing to the previous iPad Retina. Interestingly enough the iPad Air seems to have a colder rendering where the iPad Retina 4th Gen is warmer. So sometimes, on white pages, the Retina 4th Gen could be even more yellowish than the new Air.

But the purple tinted thing is clearly visible when watching movies just looking at the cinemascope stripes. Here the Retina 4th gen is much better with black that are black when the Air is all purplish.

I must've gotten pretty lucky in that my issues seem to be minimal versions of the ones you guys are having. I'd post a picture but I can't figure out how to post pictures. My ipad won't let me paste a picture into the text field. I notice two spots on the left edge (same edge as book shadow) on black images that look like light bleed, but I'm not going to bother getting it replaced until around thanksgiving when I'm actually near an apple store. I don't really care about getting "refurbished" devices because even their brand new boxed devices have recycled parts in them. They're exactly the same, they just reserve some for AppleCare. If I were to go buy another 5S right now, chances are it has a logic board from a returned iPhone 5S in it. It's equally likely that a warranty replacement has all brand new parts. It really doesn't matter guys. Unless you really care about the serial number on the box matching your ipad, then it doesn't matter.

I am now on my 4th iPad air. It seems to be a widespread production problem. I got my replacements from 3 different locations just to be sure it wasn't a single bad batch (In the inland empire, California) Most of the screen is pinkish white with a strip of yellow going across the middle/bottom area when holding it in portrait mode. I am unable to get a refund at this point so I plan on selling it and getting an ipad mini retina. Apple corporate executive relations offices did everything they could to help me out and they earned a customer for life because of their kindness, the apple store did as well, as did target. This is out of their hands until the screen suppliers fix the problem. If you can live with it and not be frustrated every time you pick up the device then keep it. Otherwise get a refund till they fix the problem. If you keep returning them you will most likely end up with the same problem but in a different area of the screen. The genius said that they consider it within spec. Which is a round about way of saying we see the issue but our hands are tied until apple acknowledges the issue, I could see it in his expression that he saw it on the newest replacement.

I have refresh rate issues with my iPhone 5c, got a few replacements for that as we'll. Out of 4 devices one was free of the issue but had extra light leakage in the top left corner. I wish I could have that device back because it's a better trade off than the refresh problems the current replacement has. My daughters new 5c is flawless, my moms 5s has the same issue my 5c has.

Basically what we all may be experiencing are the perils of being an early adopter. I agree that it should not be the case, but that doesn't change the fact that it seems to be. I love apple and am unwilling to go back over to the dark side (android), but I really hope they resolve this so that I don't have to be afraid of buying a new version of their products. What do you guys think? That's just my personal point of view. I may be wrong.

To add some slightly useful information to this discussion:

I bought a DMPL iPad Air (32GB Space Grey wifi) with the yellow tint on the left and "book spine" problem. I replaced it at an Apple Store with another DMPL iPad Air which had the same problem. Apple Store employees, including the manager, looked at the iPad screen and none could see the yellow tint. I returned it for a gift card.

Today I went to a different Apple Store. I looked at five of the DMPL iPad Airs on display, and one DLXL, and all had the two issues. However, I also looked at four of the DMQL iPad Airs and they were substantially better. One of them had a slight yellow left tinting, though it wasn't a darker hue like the DMPLs. (I didn't look at the serial numbers until after I looked at the screen.)

So I asked an employee if they'd be willing to get me a DMQL and they went in the back and came out with a DMPL. They were unwilling to route through the stock to find me one.

So I've ordered a final third one over the phone of the "main" Apple Store (800.MY.APPLE) ... hoping. If this one isn't better then I'll just return it and wait until it seems good to order one again.

I'm sure a DMQL iPad doesn't guarantee anything (one of them I observed wasn't quite right). However, all of the non-DMQL iPads I looked at had issues but only one DMQL did. From what I've read online, it seems like the DMPL's are the most reported as having problems. They might be the most common though. Someone who is thinking about exchanging their iPad Air might have success in convincing an Apple Store employee to find a DMQL (if available). Of course all of our accounts are anecdotal.

I'm really starting to get confused. I tried two DMPLs and both were faulty. Wether serials mean anything Or not I don't think so. My hope - yeah an 800 bucks hope - is that the third one will be ok.

The screen issue is so serious I can't believe thousands of people don't notice this. So, it must be that we're all on that threads the black cats who got flawed pads.

No one who pay hundreds of $ can tolerate a yellow iPad screen or am I wrong?

Someone here posted that a genius somewhere reckoned the problem.... But that won't make Apple move, this is why our only way is to have our pads exchanged until we get one which is ok.

Right now I'm so **** happy to type on my ***** keyboard...

Well, I decided to return my iPad Air for now. I have a slight yellow tint across the left third of the screen while held in portrait mode. It's so subtle that I think many people just don't see it. ..but now that I've spotted it, I can't see anything else.

I'll try again in a few weeks. I really love the hardware aside from this.

I don't think it's worth returning for a refund. You can get replacement anytime within your apple care period, I'm keeping mine and then maybe in January if it's still bothering me I'll go get it replaced. Same with my iPhone 5S with the yellow band at the top edge of the display. They all have the issue. I rally don't think it's that big of a problem.

By the way, I really don't think the serial number prefix has anything to do with it. I have a DMPLL and the issues are minimal. They're there, but nowhere near as bad as most of the posters in this thread. But I know if I go get it replaced now, it'll likely be worse than it is now. I ordered my ipad online, for reference. Seems like the ones picked up in the apple stores are in worse shape than those ordered online. The three iPhone 5Ss I have had vastly different serials, the first two started with C the third that I have now is a D. All had the exact same display problem. We just have to wait a couple of months and then go cash in on the warranty. Getting replacements now is a waste of time. Just enjoy the air you have, that's my opinion. Yes, it's frustrating, but since you're going to get an air anyway, why not just keep the one you have and get it replaced when the production issues are all sorted out?
