Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?
Hi, I have just got a new ipad air today. I am noticing that the left side of the screen has a yellow tint. Should I take it back for a replacement?
iPad, iOS 7.0.3, Ipad Air

LG and Sharp make the better displays for iPads and rMBP - trust me if you want yelow then go and grab a Samsung, they all have that yellow urine-shine.
Do you think any of the other manufacturers shift over 4 million product in a week and if so what kind of a Quality Control would they have in place, Apples QC is great and I'm sorry that 60 people here have a yellowish display but seriously it's not a biggie and you can take it back for a replacement or a refund or be patient and wait until your screen has had enough use to fix this glue curing problem - mine is sorted others are sorted, hang in there!
Use it now enjoy it take it back whenever you're money is always waiting for you as is a replacement but use it, they're the best tablets ever!
Well, Apple products are already for the "rich" - or for the people that can afford it. For that money i expect the quality, i had problems in the past with yellow ipad1, yellow ipad 2 and yellow ipad 3 (with light leakage on one side as a "bonus" :-)
Seriously, is that OK? I guess, not
My only "white and perfect" ipad is ipad3 - after replacement, Samsung display, great one.
By the way, Samsung are korean too - as LG, but Apple desires Samsung panels more lately, because their technology of production is more advanced (LG or Sharp can't keep up with the demand)
It's not just 60 people here, it's over all Ipad forums people complaining about this and having several replacements all with the same issue. I'm no expert but from what I've read it's not glue as the screen itself isn't glued it's the led's themselves. I've no idea who makes the better screens I have what people seem to think is Samsung and have the Yellow tint(it doesn't go away, it's actually getting worse) others have Sharp and also seem to have issues. I have had first gen IPad, the 4 and a mini with no problems but the Air or at least the first batch definatley seems to have issues. I'm on my second now. I'm hoping for third time lucky but I'll get the refund if that one is faulty, thankfully I haven't sold my 4 yet so I can go back to that.
Remember it doesn't have to be every Air that has a problem but even if only 20% do thats a huge amount and a serious issue.
they don't get cheaper in a month, where are you based? You have rights and if your unit is faulty then that reseller especially if they're "Authorised" has to refund your money that's usually the law everywhere and hey it is a week old, it's not like that return/exchange window has closed it's only been 7 days - let us all know the website for this reseller that won't return your money please.
I got $50 off of my 16gb iPad Air, so I'm going to keep my yellow tinted one and have them swap it in January. I'm not happy that the screen is so visibly defective. My iPad 3 also had this, but somehow I just dealt with it.
You know I did notice the book spine shadow effect on mine that I ordered online on November 3rd... 128 gb Verizon LTE model. Maybe even a TINY TINY TINY yellowish tint on the left side, but it's so unnoticeable that I don't dare that much. The edge shadow bothers me more. But I'm not going to go get it replaced because my model seems to have minimal versions of these issues, with no other bands of discoloration or brightness unevenness. No spots, no nothing. I'm reluctant to get it replaced because I may get a worse one. If it still bothers me in 2014 I'll get a replacement. It's not worth it because clearly almost all of the models coming out right now have these issues. With 2 years of AppleCare+ I see no reason to rush. The same thing happened with my 64gb iPhone 5S. It has a pretty bad yellow band at the top of the display that's very clearly visible epecially in portrait mode, but it's my third 5S, and all three have had the problem, along with 90% of the in store demo models of iPhones and iPod touches. This one has a worse yellow band at the top of the display, but it has better wifi reception, better LTE speeds and better cell connectivity than any of the other 5S's I had. Touch ID also seems to be more reliable on my current phone. And with the nearest apple store over 2 hours away and 2 years of AppleCare plus, I'm not going to try to get any more replacements until next year. Hopefully by then slower production will produce higher quality devices. Also, if you get your device replaced too many times for the same issue, they can see that in your account and are more likely to tell you you can't get any more replacements. They're more likely to believe you if you just wait rather than play iDevice roulette until they start denying you replacements.
That's my $.02.
My MacBook Pro retina on the other hand... Had the screen on that replaced because of bright spots (mura) and they put the new clamshell on crooked and now the display creaks... That's going back to the apple store next week so they can reseat the clamshell and fix the stupid service center's carelessness... I'd rather they have 2 day turnaround times instead of same day if it meant they fixed my computer properly and with care...
Hey there,
I purchased on november 1st an iPad Air Wi-Fi 32 GB, serial DMPLK. Clearly, there's a yellow tint on the left side of the screen, visible on white apps like photos, notes, configuration steps, etc.
I toyed with other iPad Air and found this issue as well. Not sure what I should do. Return, Exchange... Afraid of getting an unit with an even worst quality screen.
Any advice here ?
Thanks,
Julien
Guys rather than keep swapping for another, get a refund and buy another and if that one is faulty get a refund and buy it again,do that over and over again until you get a decent one you're happy with because it's easier to do that than exchanging on the same receipt over and over, don't hang onto a faulty unit and miss your return window and have to swap your new one for an applecare replacement/ refurb later on, that's a hassle and it's used and why have to make an appointment for that, prevention is better than cure, get refunds until you get the right one.
This yellow/book spine etc QC issue must have something to do with the new Film used which they opted instead of glass this time.
Apple is doing some strange things lately - just look how they only sell Apple 5s covers and iPad Smart Cases as Leather Animal Skin! Steve Jobs was a vegan toward the end, obviously the first thing a doctor tells you when you're diagnosed with Cancer is too come off meat and dairy but I think he might have also become an animal lover toward the end not just a cat and dog lover like most people in the western world.
Anyway take your iPads back and ask Apple 2.0 for Polyethene cases for 5s and iPad Yellow while you're there tell them Animal Skin is dispicable and fking cruel and certainly not green.
Hopefully Apple can do something with all the faulty Airs like they did with the Black iPhone 5 returns - 3 million of those customer returns got sent back to foxconn and were resprayed and painted and are now sold as iPhone 5c
this is my second replacement, Apple don't takes back the first "yellow" ipad to the reseller because in their opinion the screen is good enought, so the reseller can't return me the money
Have you read this?
...😠
".....The source went on to say that although Sharp's LCD burn-in is not visible to the naked eye, the panels cannot be used due to Apple's strict Retina display standards...." 😮
what happened then with the Air? 😕
(sorry for my English)
I'm now in the process of returning my second faulty unit to Apple. If the third attempt fails ill definitely go for a refund.
Just came back from work and typing right now on the pad it looks even more yellowish than ever. I doubt this issue can resolve with time. On,y getting worse.
I'll keep you guys posted when I receive the replacement.
You can exchange it any time within your 1 year warranty period, or 2 year if you bought AppleCare+ but it's generally easier to exchange during the 14 day window because you can still return it for a refund, which apple doesn't want. They'll happily give you a new one during the 14 days but after that they have the upper hand because you're stuck with your device either way if they say no. If they say no now, you can just get a refund. Also, when you're within. The 14 days you are likely to get a whole new box, brand new everything, whereas when you simply swap it out, they just give you a new device, sometimes made with refurbished parts. Don't worry about refurbished parts though, even some of their new devices that they sell to consumers have recycled components in them. They never re use casing or glass or any cosmetic part for that matter. The only parts they would recycle are the logic boards, displays in some cases, and the other interal components. The glass and outer casing are never re used. So really, unless you're planning on returning for a refund possibly, or you are crazy OCD about the serial number of your device matching the serial number on the box and on the charger, then it doesn't make a difference whether or not you do it within the 14 days or not.
My first ipad air is very bright on the left edge and dark on the right edge, So I took it back for a replacement. It turns out that the second ipad air is bright on the lower left corner and dark on the upper right corner. They said there is universal problem with those whose serial number starting with DMQL, DLXL, DQTL, DMPL, DMRL. Mine is starting with DLXL. I don't know what about the others. BTW, the attitude that the apple store staff in Hong Kong is really disappointing, he just simply said 'I don't see any problem' impatiently.

I spoke to a manager there - Bobby - who was very polite and didn't try to fob me off. But very interesting about there being a universal problem with these serial numbers? I wonder if this might lead to some sort of recall?
I doubt it. There have been other issues that plagued the launches of several others iDevices and they didn't get recalled. They only issue recalls for safety hazards, like exploding batteries. The best they'll do for us is acknowledge that there's a mass production defect and if we want it replaced they'll replace it. They're not going to recall it though unless it's a safety or liability issue.
A faulty SSD will stop the machine working a bad screen won't. This would be a huge embarrassment to Apple if they had to declare a recall of bad screens, they won't do it, they'll hope most don't notice until the 14 days run out and then people get stuck in the refurb cycle.
