Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?

Hi, I have just got a new ipad air today. I am noticing that the left side of the screen has a yellow tint. Should I take it back for a replacement?

iPad, iOS 7.0.3, Ipad Air

I originally had said that my problems didn't seem to be all that bad, so I wasn't going to exchange, but I may enter the game of iDevice roulette, seems as if my yellow tint on the left side is getting a bit worse... The book shadow effect too. Just worried about getting an even worse replacement. And since I live so far away from an apple store, I have to do replacements through AppleCare, they take awhile to replace. Also, the AppleCare phone support people aren't as willing to swap your device as the retail geniuses are.

Side note, I think the book shadow on my left side as a slight green hue to it... Maybe teal... It's definitely not neutral in color though. Boy I really hope they eventually fix this and the whole generation of iPads won't be like this. Yikes. Paid over $1000, kinda ticked. My iPhone 5S has yellow tint at the top too, and two replacements later it still has the same issue... Another reason why I'm reluctant to swap out my devices. It seems completely futile to me.

Has anyone had any luck with replacements from the last day or two? Or are we still in the same bad batch of ipad airs?

Sadly, it seems a widespread problem. I live in MIlan, Italy and I got my first iPad Air on day one.

Just after unboxing it in the store I immediately recognized the book spine on the left, without having read or heard about it, of course. I asked for a replacement but the problem was still there in the new unit, so I asked for a refund.

After a couple of days I moved to another Apple Store and bought a new iPad Air. No luck: dark on the left, bright on the right. Asked for an exchange after looking at the units in the store (all affacted at a different degree), hoping to get a better unit and surprisingly it seemed OK.

After a couple of days it started exhibiting the dark shadow on the left... I kept it for another week but it didn't improve at all so I decided to go back to the store and ask for a refund.

Now I'm sitting on my mini, which is affected by yellow tinge as well, on the bottom, and I'm planning to wait some months before trying again with the Air.

I used to have an iPad 3 exchanged once for the same issue and and iMac exchanged 4 times before having my panel replaced, for similar reasons.

Very bad, I would say. I feel that Apple's products are losing their "premium" mark.

Maybe it's part of the manifacturing process related to the LED technology or, maybe, a not so strict quality thresholds, in order to satisfy the high market request...

Yep just been to my Apple Store unfortunately their refund system is under maintenance. Very surprise to have the Apple rep admit to having lots of returns(though he did look over his shoulder first). On my way out I looked around all the display units and they all had varying degrees of yellow tint on the left, also overheard three other people all asking for either refunds or exchanges. Seems like an inherent design fault. Thankgod I didn't sell my 4.

Anyone know when Apple is going to sign contract with Samsung for the iPad Mini 2 displays so we can have the good products? I am not going to get an Air. I am not getting into this mess again.. I had experience with the iPad 2 with screen issues. I think it's stupid to keep returning iPad Air for another and repeat the cycle over and over... that's a lot of waste of driving, gas money, restocking costs, etc.. Don't abuse the return policy guys. Just either keep it or return it for a refund and keep it at that.

I don't mean to "abuse" the reurn policy. I did call apple and talk to the "genius" in genius bar. They had a meeting of 4 geniuses in genius bar and agreed that the screen looks perfectly beautiful. They suggested me to return and buy another one if I did feel something wrong with the screen. If apple could give me a promise to replace it when the screen problem is solved, I would definitely keep it. I did everyting I could to find better solution. But the "genius" in genius bar provided me the solution that I will have to use.

I don't know if I just got lucky, but I bought the Ipad air from target, last one they had left due to the overwhelming response to the 200 trade in value do the ipad 1 and my screen is perfectly uniform white across the entire screen. My serial number begins with DMPLJ if that helps. I can take a screen shot and post it but, for once I got Lucky so there are good screen ipad airs out there and if you think this is a problem watch when they release the ipad mini retina there will be so many more problems. If apple is tossing away screens from sharp saying they have Burn in but it's not noticeable to the human eye, that should throw up a major red flag. If it's not noticeable then how is that burn in duh. Good luck to all.

I tried what was working for some people, leaving the brightness on full on a white screen overnight, but it doesn't seem to have helped. I just really don't want to exchange mine and then get a worse one. Yikes. But I definitely do have some light bleed in two distinct spots on black backgrounds, particularly noticeable when watching movies. I have read about people getting perfect airs on their first or second exchange so I may call AppleCare and initiate an express replacement.

Posted also on another Thread, as this problem is spread along the board:

I have the same experience in Spain:

I purchased the iPad Air Wifi+cellular 128 Gb on November 1. Received it by courier on Nov. 6, and right after unboxing it I noticed a dark area in the left of the display.

Looking carefully I see a dark area of about 1 cm on the left, and a brighter area (the same size, top to bottom) just near the shadow.

I drove to the nearest Apple Store on Saturday to ask for replacement and discovered the same screen problems on the other units available. We unboxed 2 new units and checked the units on display. All have the same issue in more or less the same amount.

People on the Apple Store not noticed it as it's more difficult to see with the standatd coloured background, or with web surfing. If you look at a blank page (in Safari or othe app) with a mid backlight adjustment it's here.

So I think it's a very common problem, present in a big amount of units of the first production run. Just most of people haven't seen the problem yet.

For me this is a clear lack of Quality Control. We can't accept a high quality product with this faults.

I just asked Apple for a replacement. In 3 to 5 days I expect to receive the new unit, at this point thinking it will have the same problem more or less.

Honestly, since this is a wide-spread defect, I guess Apple would never admit it. All the iPad airs I've seen so far have the same problem, yellow tint, book spine...yet many people don't notice these issues, though they did get the defective products. And it not quite noticeable to me when I use mine in the daylight or bright lights(say, like in Bestbuy store). If Also I think some people don't use their iPads in a dark room very much, but they would find it in the future. Apple can't afford recalling all the iPad airs they sold, if they admitted this problem, people were to compare their iPads and more people would find the iPads they used to be fond of are defective, and ask for a replacement or even a refund. As I mentioned before, this is a massive problem, Apple can't put up with so many replacements or refunds. However, according to some previous posters, there really are some good or acceptable ones out there, so good luck. Wish you all could have a perfect screen next time you get it replaced.

Now go try out black screen. Set your background to black and take it to your closet with doors closed. Inspect the screen with varying levels of brightness. The problems may not show you right away upon first impression... it takes days before you start discovering .... umm bad things.

I am wondering if Apple deliberately set the background to colors other than all black or white. Because with these colors you can easily see flaws, like tints, dark spots, light bleeds, etc. It harder to tell when they use their own fancy color backgrounds till you set it to white or black... This is like hiding problems!

My black 16GB (DMPLK) iPad Air suffers from the yellow tint problem, and I have notified my local Apple Store in Norway. The woman who helped me sent a mail to her boss explaining the issue(s).

I upgraded from a (dearly loved) iPad 2 with backlighting leaks as common issue since its launch; after getting used to that issue, I am finding it very disappointing upgrading to a "defect" new model. Especially when considering the fact that my mother uses a 1st gen iPad Mini (flawless), which has more or less the same design as the iPad Air.

An another situation I don't like is the fact that iPhones and iPads are getting more and more pricy (here in NO) over the past years, while the QC is at the same pace going the other direction..

We just have to wait and see what Apple intends to do. Or if they intend to do anything.

Apple probably has already read this thread, yet I don't think they'll do anything official. This problem is so wide-spread. An official report will draw everyone's attention on this. Including the media as well as the customers who got this problem but haven't noticed it. People will be swarming in front of Apple stores crying for a thorough check, comparison, replacement and refund.

I found a site that reviewed the ipad air. Half way down the page look at the photo samples under Design and build quality. I can see the yellowing on the left side its very noticable. Is this what you guys are talking about ? Mine doesnt exhibit this at all. There are some perfect screens that apparently have come thru. So i'd bring it back to apple or wait three months like some have suggested until this problem is rectified. God only knows what problems the ipad min retina will have. I was going to wait for that, but with the burn in problems and squeezing in more pixels into a tinier screen doesnt seem like there is that much gain in waiting for that one. Anyway let me know if thats what everyone is complaining about
