Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?

Hi, I have just got a new ipad air today. I am noticing that the left side of the screen has a yellow tint. Should I take it back for a replacement?

iPad, iOS 7.0.3, Ipad Air

Hehe... Very funny indeed, abacus01, those screenies on the techviewviewer website feature huge and awful yellow tint, even worse than I had on the first Air that I had exchanged. We should keep those screenshots !

sooo obvious ! Man, how come journalists dont say a word about it, one might ask...Well, must be that those so called journalists get their apple products for free.

Apart from that, I agree with what had been posted above, if Apple read that thread, they will never admit,

and will replace the thousands of faulty units silently and let those who dont complain as is.

Too much a big deal.

I am still waiting for my third replacement, and was told today by Apple support that they ran out of stock.

My bet is that they had to face loads of returns worldwide since release on nov 1st.

Bought my iPad air last week. Has the yellowish discoloring on the left side also. Everything else about the Air is great but the screen being like this for the amount of money paid is unacceptable. Will wait another week and take it back to the Apple store to see if any without this defect have come in.

I have purchased many Apple products in the past without any problems, but this is the first time I've bought something within the first couple weeks of release. I was hoping that with this being the fifth iPad produced, and with a year to work on its design, that Apple would finally be able to put out a new product where the first production batch didn't have any defects. Looks again like this was not to be.

I Just paste a screen protection on iPad air, oh Gee! The yellow on the left screen just becoming more apparently!

I am unhappy, really!

ONe reason I keep buying apple's product is their precious quality! Especially the experience!

I never feel uncomfortable with the screen of my iPhone iPod or Mac , but the yellow keep crapping on my head, when I trying to read books... I will have exams within 10 days...

Plsease! iPaders! Tell more about your screen after replacement , so more people could know if it's worth to do it(according to those previously dudes, they replaced it 4 or 5 times still got a yellow face, that's just upsetting! I'm sorry for that!)!

Well I just got off the phone with AppleCare because I couldn't stand my yellow tint and book spine shadow. They sent me up like three levels of support, they're "capturing" my device. So instead of just replacing the ipad itself, they're replacing my power adapter and lightning cable as well and they're going to divert my ipad away from the repair center and send it somewhere special to this capture facility because they want to see what's up with it rather than just refurbish it immediately. Sounds like maybe they've gotten a lot of calls about the same issue, and they're collecting a sample of them to study, possibly so they can fix their manufacturing processes. So, maybe they're going to resolve the issue after all.

Dear all,

I bought my iPad Air last week and this chat made me a bit nerveous. I checked my iPad immediatly, next to my iMac.

I'm using apple products since 1993, means since 20 years. At this time it was a statement to use apple, nowadays it is a mass product which still stands out.

My question is simple:

Did someone ever used a screen without any shadows at the edges or color tints on a white background? I'm a difficult person and I get disappointed fast about a faulty quality, but this discussion goes far beyond the reality of computer screens. When you discover a defect - bring it back. If not, just enjoy the iPad and don't spent your time with researches about a perfection which is technically just not available at the moment. And I think "finepiks" wrote quite balanced about the color issue on screens and I fully agree with his statements. I'm not a photographer, but an architect who takes care of colors too.

I bought the second one tonight. It's even worse. The last one I bought a week ago only have shadow on the left. Even my friends who don't know this issue was asking me why there's dark shadow on the left. However, the one I bought tonight is not only dark shadow but yellow. I compared it with ipad mini/ 4th generation ipad/ 3 generation ipad(The new iPad). None of the others has the same problem. If you have an ipad with this issue, you'll know how uncomfortable to have unexpected yellow on the left hand side.

By the way, it seems not every product has the problem. But quite a few.

@RainerStr

You must have missed the point. We all have our reason to buy Apple products. Main one, no doubt, our search for better quality. Hence we pay TWICE the price for pads like the Air. Similar products, with same capabilities, same storage, same functionality exits for HALF the price. Yet, we pay for what we expect to be better than other brands.

And when we find out of the box the product had a failure, we should be all happy ? Non sense.

We buy iPad and we pay the price for it, in return we should get what we paid for: near perfection is what Apple had made us awaiting from the brand, not tinted screens..

Now to answer your question, yes I have a perfect screen beside my Air: my iPad 4 .

We're customers, no cheerleaders.

And reporting issues here on these boards is not bashing, it's also with the hope that the problem gets fixed.

You didn't tell us by the way, how's your iPad ? Next to your iMac? Most likely flawed like ours, otherwise you would evenness bother posting here.

Hi FuelFlow,

I fully agree to your statement. And as I wrote, if the product is faulty, it has to be replaced.

My iPad hasn't any shadows and yellow tints. Compared to the iMac, the screen color has a pink tone, which isn't my favorite color. The iMac is really terrible!

On the other side, I changed from iPad Mini to iPad Air. I never thought about the screen color of the mini, I just used it - maybe with the same screen problems. The chats can create a sensibility for some people, which create a general unhappiness with the product.

Let's explain it in a different way: I'm married and I love my wife and my kid. When I start now to check her (e.g. by photoshop) or discuss her behavior at chats ... only no one will take her back. I enjoy the good sides of her.

Apple products are emotional items, they aren't perfect and we run immediately to the next shop, when a new version is released (and we know, we should wait). We discuss about colors and scratches and how to avoid it. I use my iPad for my work and it can do a lot more than the old version. This counts for me.

Hi again,

To understand my point of view: I live and work in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, since 7 years. As a German I drive a Mercedes Benz SLK, famous for its quality. I replaced everything already, it is terrible and I had problems with the premium brand for more than 1 year. Since I decided to drive it as it is, I really love it and I will keep it as long as possible.

I think it isn't a problem with a concrete batch or serial numbers.

I think it's related to the manufacturer of the display panels and the lack of quality control in the iPad assembly factory.

If Apple have more than one display supplier, probably only one of the suppliers have the problem and we don't know if it's present only in one first batch or affect all the displays from this supplier.

BTW, Apple can't aknowledge this problem as this should lead to stop selling the product until the problem is solved. Apple can't say they're selling a product they know is defective...

I'm waiting for the first replacement to arrive. The AppleCare rep avoid to say the new one will not have the same or a worst display... I asked... no answer...

Nov 12, 2013 3:11 AM in response to RainerStr

RainerStr - Again if you have no problem with your Air why are you here bothering those that do?

You are willing to pay premium prices for less than a premium product and allow a company to take advantage of you? Then thats on you, the rest of us don't treat Apple or any other company as a religion, we treat them as a company that charges a premium price for products they say are the best on the market. They themselves say they hold themselves to the highest standards so as customers, not fanatical followers we expect them to live up to both their word and their prices.

As for perfect screens I have the Ipad 4, Mini and Iphone 5 here to compare it to and they are as perfect as I have seen, the Air screen is sub par quality compared to them. My friends Nexus 7 even has a better screen and thats a cheap budget(crappy imo) Android device. I've owned lots of different devices( I love my gadgets) and some have issues, the old Nexus 7 had screen lift, some old Samsung devices had yellow tints, some OLED displays have pink tints. These are all faults not something you should just put up with and act like you are gratful. We are customers not slaves.

For those who have problems with Apple reps do this test in front of them. Put the Air down on a table, turn your hand side ways like a knife and place it just above the screen(as if you were karate chopping it lol) this splits the screen in half and makes it obvious that one side is yellow and the other white. If they still try and say theres no problem it's obvious they are just following the company mantra so shake your head and ask for a refund.
