Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?
Hi, I have just got a new ipad air today. I am noticing that the left side of the screen has a yellow tint. Should I take it back for a replacement?
iPad, iOS 7.0.3, Ipad Air

Ouch, yeah that looks bad to me. Obviously only you have seen it in person so you have to make the final decision but from those photo's it looks pretty bad. Mine wasn't as yellow all over but more yellow on the left.
Well, a miracle has happened on my iPad Air. I bought mine from Walmart on November 9th and when I booted, it had a thin black/blue vertical line three inches from the right side running through the entire screen. I had planned to return it to Walmart today, however, last night when I opened up the iPad the line was completely gone. I have 30 days for return so if the line reappears I will return it but I have used it several times today and there is no longer any line. I also do not have any tinting issues.
I did notice that my display looks much better than it initially did. It has more depth (almost three dimensional) and is more fluid.
I am hopeful.
Yours is pretty decent. I would be okay with that screen. One thing I can add. I've noticed due to this technology they are using, if you hold the ipad on an angle one way it makes the screen appear more yellow and if you then start tilting it straight up and down it looks whiter. Its the way these screens are. I also was in the apple store and looked over the new ipad mini retina, and if you think your screens are bad, the mini didnt have the yellow problem, but the screen looked washed out compared to the air, and it was on the highest brightness and didnt look any where near the brightness of the ipad air. I know some say the brightness isnt working either and if you have that problem definitely swap it out, because the brightness is suppose to work. The mini also felt very warm to hot when i was using it for 5 minutes only.
Both those issues are being posted over on macrumors now. Of course everyone's dismissing it as "people complaining about nothing". They don't like it when people complain about their beloved apple devices.
Apple seems reduced the amount of LEDs on iPad 5 in order to reduce heat and reduce power load, but this also potentially reduces the amount of light emitted. That's why a yellowish cast to the screen is more noticeable.
Apple just came out with iPad 2, with no changes to the LEDs, and looks just fine.

Are you sure that ' Auto brightness' on ipad air is working correctly ? I have tried 4 iPad Air at apple store and all were the same that auto brightness is doing nothing . on or off it make no different so i believe its only ios 7.0.3 issue with iPad Air. anyone confirm this ? as all my 3 iPad air are the same .
ps. Auto brightness is working on my iphone and mini so i know that it doesn't work at all on iPad Air.
Better than having a gradient in my opinion. I'd rather have a warmer screen that's uniform than have one that's one side perfect other side yellow. They're taking a long time to fulfill my replacement... Maybe that means they're waiting on a fresh batch... Hopefully with no tints...
Pretty good screen maybe a slight book spine effect but I'd take it over mine. Mine has less yellow than most, but a bad shadow on the right and as a result, off white colors toward that side. Hoping my replacement won't be worse.
Wow I feel so stupid. I didn't realize yellow zone was coming from my screen. When I put it in landscape the color was uniform. Thanks for sharing. I'm glad you got a good unit. Hopefully there's more out there.
In addition to what is spoken about the glue, need these screens an operating time to give their true color?
I wish you luck with your replacement, they sent me a refurbished one
(sorry for my English)
Strangely enough, on my side too the replacement process is very slow. Been waiting for more than a week now that ups pay me a visit... Not a word from Apple though , they must have ran out of stock or decided not to replace returned units until a new batch gets available, and flawless.
The yellow tint issue is not marginal, as we can see in that thread.
I played with two iPad Air at home the other night. Both with the same serial DMPLK.
One has a purle tinted screen the other one has a more yellowish tinted screen. To be honest I'm not sure which one is better : yellow or pink hue ? 🙂 Anyway this is proof the serial number can't be used to track the source of the screen, at least the first letters.
The other thing I have in mind is how much the finish color of your iPad changes the perception you might have from the tint of the screen. I was wondering if all the reports of yellow tinted screens were from silver iPads, that is to say the ones with the white border around the screen... ?
Both of mine were Space Grey and had yellow tint, I went around the display units and the colour didn't seem to make a difference.
For me it's not the tint it's the uniformity. If the whole screen had a yellow tint maybe I could handle that but when it's half yellow half white thats when it becomes a major problem.
i-nobody - It's not glue thats been proven false and as people have had their Ipads a while now with no improvement and even a worsening of the tint I'm guessing it's a deeper problem. This is either a rushed production, a bad batch or an inherent design flaw.
Yup understand the problem of uniformity. I'm not happy that my current Air is yellowish but at least it seems rather uniform unlike the previous one.
The interesting thing is that the Silver model with the white finish does increase the feeling of depth of the screen behind the glass.
Yeah I requested my replacement on Monday the 12th, and they have yet to even ship it, and I'm really hoping that it's because they're going to send me something from a new batch. I'm actually glad to wait as long as I get one that's newer from a better batch. It's going to be rather odd though, they're also sending me a new power adapter and lightning cable because they want to collect all of the accessories that came with my device as well, so I'll have a new lightning cable and charging plug but no new ipad... Oh well. Even with my iPhone 5S which I have had replaced numerous times for yellow bands it always shipped the next business day or two. Even if they were out of retail stock they always had replacements available for warranty claims, so hopefully they're trashing their current stock and fixing whatever production problem it is that's causing the yellow tint and shadow on left side.
