Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?
Hi, I have just got a new ipad air today. I am noticing that the left side of the screen has a yellow tint. Should I take it back for a replacement?
iPad, iOS 7.0.3, Ipad Air

Hope Apple is sending you guys a new batch for the replacement and get less flawed screen.
It seems strange nobody ever said / report anything about iPad Mini 2 screen to see if they are facing the same problem. Are they afraid to find out the issue so not looking for problems? C'mon, don't be a wimp. Take it like a man!!! and tell me if the screen has no uneven tints. I have a thread for this and nobody made any comments.
thanks,
goodolcheez
My iPad mini Retina (Wi-Fi only) has zero screen issues. No discoloring/color casts. The only issue (not a big one in my book) is the color saturation is less than that of my iPad 3rd & iPad 4th gen models. I have an iPad mini (not the Retina) as well and it also has less color saturation compared to the 3rd & 4th gens. iPad mini vs iPad mini Retina have the same color consistency, saturation & lack of color casts...pretty much the same except for the obviously higher screen resolution (which is not really all THAT noticeable, as I expected it to be).

From what people post on the web the problem with iPad mini retina is washed out colors as compared to iPad Air. Few threads over at macrumors.
Yeah I heard that too about looking washed out. At first I thought this can be remedied through settings in control panel of something. That may not bother me. I'm more concerned about having uneven whites.

That's good to hear! Sounds quite promising. Maybe it's Apple's intention on the calibration for the Mini's.. Or perhaps, the iPads / Air's are too saturated? It's subjective I guess.
I'm gonna get an iPad Mini 2. 😀
I wanna report that my iPad Air Replacement has started to ship today directly from China. Next week it comes to me.
I'd ordered an iPad Mini Retina yesterday for a comparison. The best iPad will stay at me. I will compare the displays. From what I've heard there are no issues with the Mini retina screen except the colour saturation thing.
When the size is ok for me, I think I take the mini.
Did you order your replacement from AppleCare? Warranty replacement? Usually they send it out from a depot in the u.s. But maybe since they could be sending us a new batch, it's coming directly from the factory to save time. Mine is still pending replacement, hasn't shipped yet...
I'm from Germany so there is no US Depot for me. ;-)
I know that Apple has a depot in Prag,Czech Republic where my first iPad Air comes from. The replacement is from AppleCare, yes. Also it's a warranty replacement but I'm still in the 2 weeks that are allowed for giving it back without any issue. In Christmas time (apple says 1.11 - 31.1) here in Germany Apple give us an extra long give back service.
So I can easily give my iPad back when something is wrong with it or when I take the mini, which I prefer ATM.
Hopefully the replacement are a new charge without any issues. Like I said, I wait for both devices and take the one with the better screen. My feeling says that I'll take the retina mini. I think it's the better form factor. The air is a super nice device but it is still too big for me.
Mine still hasn't shipped. I mean at least I have a working ipad air to begin with while I wait. Wondering what the delay is. I was supposed to get my iphone 5S replacement today too but FedEx messed up and it sat in Memphis all day yesterday and today before flying out. No way it's getting here today. Hopefully tomorrow, 3 days.
I hate to jinx it in case they're waiting to send me a new production model, but if I don't see that they've shipped my replacement by tomorrow I am tempted to call and ask what's up because I initiated the replacement on Monday... Then again I don't want to rush it like I said in case they're waiting on newer models that don't have the issue.
I got a 32gb ipad air like 4 days ago with no problem (DMPL serial) , but then I realized that I wanted more space so, I went yesterday to get the 64gb version (DMPL serial again) . I set it up and when reading on safari I realized that it has a dark book spine on the left side. I tried to not looking at it. I tried to tell myself that it doesn't exist. But it is THERE and I HATE IT!! I am returning this for full refund and then buying one on blackfriday maybe I can get a deal and a non defective one. I am so sad because I saved a lot money to get this and I am not paying $700 for a defective screen. I really like apple products because the quality that they have (I have a macbook air and it is amazing). But they let us down with this.
I went to another of the Apple stores in town. The iPad Airs were still showing the bookbinder effect on about 75% of the units. Ones without the issue had serial numbers containing DMPLL and above. Numbers like DMPLK had the book binder effect. I didn't see the yellowing issue at all this time.
I checked seven of the new iPad Mini Retina modes. All were perfect, no bookbinder effect or yellowing. I couldn't check light bleed in the store--ambient lighting was too bright.
Quite interesting. I've just returned my iPad this morning and waiting for a new one. Serial was DMPLJ but again I doubt it has anything to do with serials. I've had in my hands a DMPL that had no issue at all on the screen except a very tiny and barely noticeable book spine effect. But no yellow tint.
I will report back when I receive my new pad.
Can someone post a pic of their defective screen that shows the bookbinder effect. Since i dont have that on mine i'd like to see what everyone is talking about. I hope all you guys get a good screen unit, as myself I hate the yellowing i've seen on kindle fires ect. and now apple. Shame on them for sending out so many defective units.
Mine is DMPLL and it has the issue. Unless you know which letter corresponds to production week, then I don't think we can use serials to predict issues. I forget where it is, but somewhere there's an apple serial number decoder that will tell you the factory it was made in, machine ID, production week, etc.
with my all 3 iPad air and my 3rd one is a keeper as its less yellow tint and uniform than my the other 2.
I went to Apple store today and bought Mini Retina as a present ( still sealed at the moment ) . i can say from the demo units that all ipad air and mini retina are produce warm colour which all units were yellowist depend on unit more or less. i couldn't say much about ununiform as the store was in a really bright room.
so if you looking for a cool colour ( pure white or cool tone) like my previous ios devices , i don't think you will find one.
Jommy,
I think this is a very subjective matter to most. But the blanket statement you wont find one is inaccurate, as mine is cool white, and consistent across the whole screen. No book spine effect although im not sure about that. But believe me there are keeper units out there, you just have to get lucky I assume.
