Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?
Hi, I have just got a new ipad air today. I am noticing that the left side of the screen has a yellow tint. Should I take it back for a replacement?

I don't think you should be concerned about refurbished units to be honest. Apple's "refurbished" units are remanufactured with known 100% working parts, and are built by hand and inspected carefully, arguably way more carefully than in the original factory in China. I bet the QC on remanufactured units is way higher than the factories in China. I just got my 3rd replacement iPhone 5S today, after the first three iphones had a yellow horizontal band at the top of the screen. This one must be remanufactured, because the lifetime call hours says 5 hours. The other two replacements were brand new. And guess what, this remanufactured one doesn't have the yellow band. If you look really closely in the dark on a bright white screen, you can see the yellow at the top and bottom edges a TINY bit, but it's way less noticeable than my first three units and I'm keeping this one. Maybe we should be hoping for remanufactured ipads, because they're inspected more closely by an American, not a Chinese factory worker making 1/10 of minimum wage. Plus, each one gets inspected before going out, unlike in factories where only a sample is inspected, 1 out of 100 probably are inpsected in a factory.
Just another $0.02.
Probably contributed about a dime to this discussion by now...
Having the very same problem.
Book spine shadow on left side portrait, warm white left side of display and cool white right side of display.
Dark screen has yellow light bleeding bottom left corner 3/4 inch up left and across right. Pink light bleeding top right hand corner of dark screen 3/4 down and across left. Spots of light bleeding all around edge of dark display.
Battery life was terrible.
Wifi was slow.
I'm waiting 2 weeks for my reseller to get in a replacement. It's a beautiful looking device and wonderful concept but totally unusable.
White/Silver 64GB iPad air (DMPLG)

The outlook is not very positive from what I read
I just want my money and iPad 3 back
Hello and sorry for my English.
My third remplacement is on his way. They stated 5-7 days for sending, then 3-5 days, and now it is already on his way after two days of waiting.
It has been sended from Chengdu in China.
I hope this is a new batch without those yellow tint. Perhaps it's already fixed?
Can somebody help me with one question? My first order was sendend the 2nd of November, are the 15 days for sending back on this date, or on the date you receive your remplacement (6 november for the second, 15 november for the third)?
Hello - confirmed here havnig the "dark book spine" down the left edge of the screen in portrait mode. Mine is a 128GiB cellular model with a DMPL serial number.
Got my return number already for a full refund. I need to see that Apple have acknowledged this problem and taken appropriate measures before i part with nearly £800 sterling next time!
Such a shame - I really appreciated the rest of the device. I can't beleive this low level of quality control is occuring, especially on the most important part of the device - the screen!
On the plus side Apple have been FANTASTIC with their customer support. Really, truly, the best customer service I have ever experienced.
I bought my first 32Gb iPad Air at a local reseller and it had the yellow tint on the left which graduated to a more acceptable white on the right. It was extremely noticeable so I returned it and ordered a 64Gb from the Apple Online Store. I wanted 64Gb to begin with but it seems none of the resellers in Canada, like Future Shop and Best Buy, received them from Apple. Nobody had 64Gb except the online Apple Store. When I got the second there was no yellow on the left but the bottom half was distinctly pink and the top half was tinted green. I was frustrated by that point so I called Apple Customer Support. To be fair, they were really great! They emailed me a return label to send the bad unit back to them by UPS and offered to send me a new sealed unit by express shipping once they received the original. The rep noticed how many apple products I have and said that he would throw in an Apple TV as a courtesy for my trouble. How cool is that!? I was really impresssed that they took the matter seriously and have done what they can to make it right. Still no telling if the third one will have problems too but I certainly hope not. Interestingly, there seems to be very little about this problem in the media or on popular reviews aside from forums like this. I haven't had much luck with mine so far but maybe the majority of units shipping have acceptable screens.
Seems pretty widespread, but I'm seeing alot of people just accepting it for some strange reason. Must be the new screen they are using. I was going to give the mini a try but I think I'm just going to skip this generation and see what happens with the Air 2.
Hi, guys
As many people reported "100% brightness + pure white picture + days" won't help the yellow issue, I tried on mine, failed. But I did with something extra :
100% brightness, pure blue screen( in against the yellow color), for 36 hours
50% brightness, pure blue screen( in against the yellow color), for 36 hours
Still failed like a tedious tragedy!
I gave up, even the color calibration in the future after jailed. I gonna replace it anyhow, no matter how many times!
Any idea if this is limited to certain models? I have a 16gb grey ipad and I can see this issue. Would a 32gb or silver model be different? I want to return it but I'm not sure what to replace it with if all versions are like this.
Unforntunately, I think this issue plaguing a large percentage fo the iPad airs. I also think alot of people either don't notice or dont' care. I returned mine twice, even had them check the third one in store. The "Book Spine" issue is prevalant on all of the display models instore as well.
The Ipad Air has only one sheet of glass that's why the screen feels different, the other Ipads all had two sheets of glass making it feel thicker and more solid. The Ipad Mini has only one sheet too it's one of the ways htey manage to make it thinner.
It's a real shame this issue and I really wish the tech media would address it rather than turning a blind eye. There's obviously a manufacturing issue but it would be nice too know whether it's temporary or something thats just a problem with the new screens.
I will keep this one for another week to see if it gets worse and also for the stock that may be affected to get used up. If they have been informed about the problem they may have rectified the fault by now. Hopefully...
Huh. I have a 128GB LTE iPad Air and I think it has an almost overly cool screen. Almost blue tinted compared to my iPhone 5S which is the purest white. Of course, in daylight it looks correct, but under incandescent it looks slightly blue.
I'm keeping it because it's awesome otherwise.
64GB space gray purchased from the Thailand Online Apple Store, and the screen has a distinct yellow hue running along the left hand side of the screen in portrait mode. It's most pronounced in the bottom left corner. This is an issue that is happening all over the world. My unit was shipped directly from China and was manufactured on November 13th. Will be returning it for a replacement.
If that's the air on the far left then it does seem there is some discolouration on the left of the screen. It seems a bit darker than the ipad 3 too. We're they on the same brightness level? They look similar on the extreme angle shot though.
Hi, my colleague just bought an ipad air online. The screen is a little brighter on the left. However, it is good enough. The fifth letter of serial number is M, meaning produced in the first week of November. But @PortManToe said his one manufactured on November 13th is defective, so I don't know whether it is time to buy one or not.
