Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?
Hi, I have just got a new ipad air today. I am noticing that the left side of the screen has a yellow tint. Should I take it back for a replacement?
iPad, iOS 7.0.3, Ipad Air

I just returned an iPad air 32GB, yellow tint on left side at an Apple store. I had a chat with a 'genius' who told me he didn't see the yellow tint. He said nothing can be done because there is no fault. So, refund then. Came home lighter than air. :-)
PS: Really sad that this is the reality. I hope Apple sorts this because the iPad air is a wonderful piece of hardware. I was really enjoying it!
It looks like a tonal issue. The rest of the screen looks cool clear blue and the affected area looks warm yellow. The reason it looks so apparent is because of how brilliant the rest of the screen looks.
After returning 3 iPad Airs with the left yellow tint I decided to order an iPad Mini Retina. It shipped directly from China and just arrived today.
It has a yellow tint on the bottom 1/3rd and a slight book spine effect on the top. It's pretty much exactly the same as the Air just on different sides of the screen, and I've read other users having the same issue. This is rather frustrating and I'm debating whether to try out the "run it 100% brightness while wrapped in a towel for 24+ hours" trick or return it. (One forum about the iPad 3 posted multiple pics showing that "trick" actually worked.) I don't mind the book spine here but the tint is not ok.
On a side note, to my surprise I actually prefer the Mini to the Air.
I had several iPad 3s with various screen issues. Though I never wrapped it in a towel and ran it at full brightness for 24 hours (seems like a really bad idea, especially with how warm the iPad 3 can get), I did run it at full brightness a few times overnight. It made no difference at all. I was involved pretty heavily in all of those iPad 3 threads, and I am not convinced that anyone saw any real benefit from doing it. I just know for sure that the ones that I tried it on, minus the towel, had no improvement at all. They all ended up getting returned.
It hindsight, all of the different things we attempted to get something that we paid for seem kind of silly now. If I had it to do over, I wouldn't have bothered. I'd have just kept returning them until I ended up with what I paid for. In the end, that's what happened with my situation. I finally hit on one that didn't display the screen quirks that so many had.
The screens that are flawed are more than likely going to stay flawed. And the ones that are good are the ones to have. I know first hand that the whole return/replace rollercoaster ***** big time. But wouldn't you rather get one that works right from the beginning, instead of having to wrapping it in a towel?
Anyway, just my couple of cents.
Usmaak, I would not presume to say that that "trick" definitely works. However, I just called the Apple Store in my area are they are still not selling them in-store so I might as well give it a go.
Here's the thread I mentioned. The photos from Dane9 seem to suggest it does work, though some other posters say it didn't work for them.

I will probably end up returning it in the next few days, whether in-store or via phone.
Returned my iPad Air to the Apple store yesterday because of the yellowish tint on left hand side. Showed it to an Apple employee and at first she said she couldn't see anything. Under the bright store lights I'll admit it didn't look as bad until I showed her how a page in my book reading app looked. Had the page show two columns, white background with black text. In just a few seconds she could notice that the right column was a pure crisp white while the left column was several shades darker. She admitted it shouldn't look like that. I told her I really didn't have a preference to the way the screen looked on either side, but that it at least be consistent across the whole screen. It's just too much of a nuisance with all the white backgrounds in iOS 7. Within 5 minutes had a new now and am much happier with the way this one looks. Serial number on the new one starts with DMQLM
My iPad mini retina is the same with yellow tint and more darker yellow tint down to the bottom of the left screen ( as worse as my first iPad Air ) but the person who i gave this r-mini as present to said " It look fine to me , i couldn't see it " so i just let him keep it as he is very happy with the mini as it is . i guess 99% who bought iPad Air or mini retina are like him .
OK, got iPad rMini and not even set it up yet. In portrait mode I have gray stripe of about 5mm, cool white on top going down to yellow at the bottom, shame, I had to return my iPad Air, now I am thinking to do the same with rMini. Serial number is DLXLL
Got a call from an apple representative on Monday saying my replacement air would arrive to apple on Thursday and they're going to repackage it and overnight it to me on the same day... Hopefully one without the screen defects... My iPhone 5S is having the same problem. I lost count of which one I'm on now, this one doesn't have as bad of a yellow band on top but the light bleed is too much... Ugh. And it has an ipad air reminiscent issue where the right side is warmer than the left... Reverse of the ipad air. Wondering if this will ever end. I feel like apple is going to start not letting me get replacements because of how many I've already gotten.
You have every right to expect the exact same product as any other customer. If they have a perfect screen then you are owed a perfect screen. This isn't a thing that is in the eye of the customer it is an objective fault that some people have and some people don't.
I have the very same issue; my screen is bright and white to the right, and to the left it turns more and more yellowish and at the far left side there is noticable grayish shadow.
I complained to apple support and explained in detail what the problem is, and they told me, that there are lots of complaints about this problem.
Apple got it picked up and today I received an email from Support, that everything is just fine and according to Apple-specs and they already dispatched my defective Ipad back to me.
What is this nonsense ? I immediately called support again, and they told me to go to the apple store or make a photo of the problem. But how can I best make a photo of the problem-screen ?
I´m a phtographer and hometheater-enthusiast, so I know a little about color-temps and stuff, I mean, for this problem to recognize, you don´t even need technical equipment like color sensors or such, you can see it with the bare eye. What kind of dumba** people are working there?
Sorry that I´m so aggravated. But from what I read here so far, I better wait for my next steps until apple comes up with a liveable solution and not just mailing out unit by unit with the same defect. Does anyone know the actual permissibale difference in K beetween the "blueish" side and the "yellowish" side ?
After cancelling my first Genius Bar appointment a week ago, I rebooked because it just wasn't enjoyable to use the ipad with this issue.
Genius Bar staff agreed the screen is defective and without any issues at all arranged a replacement to be ordered in.
Fingers crossed the replacement is better!

Heh.... I experienced the exact same story not later than two days ago. It actually drove me absolutely crazy that they sent back my screwed iPad Air with a generic letter telling me they found everything ok.
To be honest I could not believe it until UPS knocked my door ,
Anyway, I'm now waiting for an Apple supervisor to ring me and tell me the next step. Probably going to head to an AppleStore and get the pad exchanged.
The first person I talked on the phone also admitted at first that they had lots of complains and that they would simply send me another unit. Dunno what happened in the meanwhile and why they finally decided to ship my initial lemonPad.
I'm starting to get really ****** off with all that matter and the time wasted to try to get what we paid for.
May I ask the people who purchased their iPads at or from apple, why they chose to? Other retailers have the same product with better customer service, returns policy, availability and even cheaper in some cases. Amazon for instance don't even require much of an explanation when returning iPads, they simply arrange to pic up and refun within days or replace. iPads are in stock for next day delivery. The ironically named Genius Bar seems like a source of frustration, why choose that option? This is a genuine question, by the way. What are the benefits of going the official route?
I bought my unit at an Official apple store in another town in germany. So I figure its probably the best thing to do, to go there and show the unit first hand to the geniuses, because it looks like a lot easier to show, than to describe.
