Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?
Hi, I have just got a new ipad air today. I am noticing that the left side of the screen has a yellow tint. Should I take it back for a replacement?

Beide iphones Factory C4, China. Week 42 (October)
Sad as F.....
My ipad replacement that I requested LAST monday the 12th FINALLY shipped this evening... Unfortunately it's going to arrive on Monday, and I leave tomorrow for Thanksgiving break. It'll sit in the mailroom for my building for about a week before I can check it out. I really hope the delay is worth it and it's a good screen. Mine isn't shipping from China, it's shipping from Reno, NV. I'm about to exchange my 5S again for my umpteenth one... Seriously, I've lost count of those.
I am so sick and tired of backing up and restoring every two weeks. Arghhhh. I'm so glad I didn't have the IR problems with my rMBP. I had bright spots and they replaced the clamshell and the new screen is perfect aside from the fact that they put the new screen on off-center, but that's an easy fix at the Genius Bar.
These iDevice screen defects are ridiculous.
I went to my local Apple reseller today, and the displays they had on the floor were perfect. I compared my defective, **** yellow iPhone 5s screen and it was night and day. The iPad Airs are gorgeous, bright, and clear. This is what we're after. Don't settle. Apple is promising the "floor models" not the defective, 2-toned nightmares we've purchased. My resolve has been steeled...
J. Dawg,
Checking in to see if your iPad Air is still "perfect" after having some time with it? If so, what is the 5th letter in the serial as it is the production week I believe? I've returned a few DMPL's already with various "5th" letters (prod weeks).
Thanks
The Air was the first time I have ever purchased an Apple product on launch day and did the arrive at store opening on Nov 1st thing - but I never would have expected what I have been through with these Apple iPads...
to date I have exchanged/returned 9 iPad Airs and 1 rMini and currently own neither product. In each case there was either bookspine issue, yellow tint on the left hand side, or dust/lint under the screen - and in each case either the Apple store or BB told with me that there was a problem with my iPad and that it needed to be exchanged. After opening many new iPads and inspecting them/turning them on to check the screen, etc. neither store was able to find an iPad without one or more of these problems. I believe I reached my return limit at both stores - for me personally I almost felt humilated going back into the Apple store so many times and felt like I was going crazy and seeing things - however each exchange/return I was assured by the store that these were legit problems.
I have never had an experience like this before - at this point I am scared to buy another iPad... it ***** because I love the other Apple products I own but this has been crazy - and made me a little crazy in the process I think. And I stil have no iPad😮
I'm having a similar problem here in Ireland. I purchashed my ipad Air in CompuB apple reseller. They were and are very helpful. I picked it up on launch day and its the first time i have purchased any product on launch day.
Book spine left side portrait
yellow white to blue white left to right of screen in portrate
pink and yellow light bleeding on dark screen
Its an LG display as far as I can tell.
I have been waiting 3 weeks now for a replacement as they are unable to obtain stock of the iPad air in 16,32,64,128 GB white and black. The lack of new stock would suggest that the display issue is causing a delay in supply.
I had a deposit on the rMini but have purchased the standard mini as I have heard similar complaints for the rMini. Looking at the display units in the store they all have the exact sane issue and I got the impression the staff could see it but were afraid to admit it. I decided to get a refund.
Really really disappointed as I have sold my iPad 3 which was like new and had a perfect display. Not sure what to do, wait until the New year or take a chance and order direct from apple online????
I went to a local Apple store to see the "problem" yellow hue first hand. It's very difficult to critically evaluate this screen with the bright light you'lll find at a retail store; the ambient light fills in the colors, making the display look more flattering. But under darker, less flattering conditions, the Air is less appealing - especially at the price.
The iPad Air's design probably looks fine with a high-quality screen, but it requires some help with the current screens. Eventually, when the demand quiets down, Apple will probably use top-notch screens again. (They'd better; Apple doesn't want to have to struggle with the press once people start writing articles and blogs in earnest.)
I was going to get an iPad Air, but I'll wait until Apple cleans house.
Definitely no chance they will address the issue in public. They have no choice but to address it behind the scenes and start putting out good units to stop the rot because there is a lot of chatter about this issue and no action will result in poor sales for Xmas and possibly resulting in a very costly flop.
Having same issue with my iPad Air DLX series.. Sadly I had the same problem with the iPad 3 (first retina iPad).. Would have thought they'd have sorted this out by now. I bought mine from the online Apple store, so as before, I gave a call to the customer service which is top notch as always, except this time round it's been 4 days and their "engineers are still looking into the issue".. Which could be a good thing... Hopefully they're trying to resolve this at the root, and I won't have to do half a dozen returns to get one with a perfect screen.
Apple you need to stop getting screwed by your suppliers! I miss the old days when it's Jobs screwing them instead... :(
Spoke to amn Apple senior advisor today about the yellow tinting and book spine issues. As usual professed to never having heard of it before. Curiously, however, after I referred to the dark left edge problem as the "book spine" effect he referred later to it as a "bookbinding" effect. Sort of suggests that Apple has an internal label for the problem and that they are indeed aware of it, if not admitting it to customers. They are sending me in to the Apple Store for "approved repair" -- AKA replace with a similarly flawed unit from the initial run.
Hi there, it seems I'm quite lucky with this issue. Though my Ipad Air has slight yellow tint on left hand side, it's not very severe. I am going to keep it cause if I replace it with a new one maybe the problem will still be there or be even worse.
We are not alone. I've searched for this issue in Chinese websites and obviously it's a really popular problem. According to a major bbs for apple users, almost all the respondences reported this issue.
I got ipad air and ipad mini retina yesterday in Oklahoma and unfortunately there are slight dark book spine on the left of ipad air display and yellow tint on bottom of ipad mini's display, both in a vertical position. I'm exchanging ipad mini because it looks as if someone peed on the bottom of the screen but I'm debating if I want to keep ipad air since the book spine effect is less noticeable. Purchasing new device like iPads should be enjoyable. This is very, very disappointing that we have to deal with these kind of quality issues.
