Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?
Hi, I have just got a new ipad air today. I am noticing that the left side of the screen has a yellow tint. Should I take it back for a replacement?

Thank you for your advise. I did went back to Apple Store today for the exchange. The new unit also have the same problem. Even worst. And the Apple stuff who looked to the new unit and inisisted the screen is alright for the new unit. He said he looked at many coloured screen everyday, he does not think there is an isses of the new unit.
After all, I asked for refund. I left with disappointment.
@ Kwun lam
you done the right thing. don't put up with product that you aren't happy with .
you could try convent garden as my 3rd air is good and uniform (DMPLG) or wait for couple months with a new production as it might get better then.
When visiting your local Apple Store about the screen problem, it's essential that you come armed with the kind of evidence that a sales staffer or genius bar employee will understand.
1. Demonstrate the display at different angles to show the inconsistency of the display; the display should be uniform and white, without any missing pixels.
2. If possible, contrast the Air with another device that is good, like an iPhone or iPod Touch.
3. Open apps that have a clear, white field, like Contacts.
4. Inspect the display for light bleed - an issue with some units.
5. View the screen at high and medium light display, to show the screen quality.
6. Show the display in a darker part of the store, to avoid the bright, flourescent light.
Kwun lam: this really disappointing. But fortunately you have several Apple stores in London so you get a good one in another store.
On my side I thing that before going to someone from the store crew I'll check on my own my iPad aid with the ones exhibited in the store. So I can figure out how my screen has the yellowish issue.
Joe,
Unfortunately, I had returned the iPad air as I had no luck in getting a better one. I did compare my iPad air with the demo units in store. I found the screen colour (temperature) of all the display unit are different. But still, I agreed that it is a good idea to compare your ipad with the display before you go.
Hope you will get a better unit.
Kwun
Thanks Kwun,
So bad... I know that we are a few part of custoners paying attention to this level of detail... But this is due to our high level of expectation in Apple products 🙂
My current iPhone and iPad mini have a perfect screen (for me) and I don't know why I shouldn't get the same with the new iPad Air... So I'll keep the presure and will do my best to get the best one which is something realistic so far.
I think it is not about our high expectation. It is Apple's responsibility to ensure their products' quality. If this screen problem is related to the thinnest of the screen, I think they should never design this until they overcome the problem.
I was a big Apple fan from a long time ago. I always recommend my friend to try out the Apple's products. From the Macbook Air 2012 harddrive's problem, I started to thinking if my other Apple products have problems. I loved Apple. But it seems I do not trust Apple anymore.
It is something bad to have presure when buying bad. It supposed to be an enjoyable experience.
Hi,
Today I went to a apple store in Hong Kong with a colleague. The stuff took out an ipad air, DLXLJ. We asked her to take one of the newest patch. She was really annoyed, keep saying that they cannot pick one for us. She was very impatient with us, said that we can only took that one or re-queue. My colleague doesn't care about ununiform screen that much, so he took it. It turns out it is acceptable with the left side a little brighter.
I am really disappointed about Apple. Apple just seems to give up customers who care about the quality of the screen. They don't care the loss of our part of market.
Speechless now.
I stand corrected, thank you. Perhaps the diffuser isn't diffusing properly then all the way to the left edge. Or maybe if the backlights are on the left side, the diffuser is diffusing too much light at that edge and too much at the right edge. I haven't looked at the display teardown. I believe both the shadow and the yellow (warmer white balance) issues are caused by the same thing, especially considering they are all on the left side. Definitely related.
Hi guys,
It took 4 iPad Air and 3 ipad mini retina replacements until I was happy with my displays. Since I had every iPad since the very first replaced at least twice I already know how Apple works with us who can see faults as little they might be. The first 3 swaps are "easy" meaning the genius swaps the device without even looking at it but if you aren't happy with the 3rd replacement a manager will be sent to deal with you. Sometimes the manager tries to convince you that the device has no faults. If you not accept that the device is fine then they tell you that they can meet your expectations and offer you to take back the item but only if the device had been bought by Apple directly. Option 1: if you have bought the device with Apple take the refund, go to the next specialist and buy a new one and repeat the swaping until you get the device you're happy with. Option 2: if you haven't bought the device with Apple tell the manager that keeping this item is no option for you because you are not happy with it and that this thing is for the trash. The manager who is always at least most of the times very polite will then try to find a solution you can life with. Just don't give in.
This years iPad's are really kickass tablets when you are finally able to enjoy them. By the way chipmunk.nl identified my ipad air as an ipad mini - maybe we cannot decode serial numbers at all. I wish all of you good luck with your struggle to get the perfect iPad.
Alex (from Germany)
Just to update you guys, I received my replacement iPad Air today. 1/3rd of the screen was yellow like before AND there was a dead pixel smack dab in the middle. Serial number was DLXLP for those that care. I'm getting a refund. Don't have time to play this return game. Good luck to everyone out there still with problems!
Just to let everyone know of my recent experience with Airs. Bought one from Regents Street store in London couple of days ago and during the first hour of using it found non-uniform and yellowish tint to the screen. Took it back to the same store, went through two other versions in store and they were all the same. At least 4 of the ones they have on display are just fine. The sales clerk couldn't see the tint I was describing but as soon as I overlaid the faulty ones over the ones on display the yellow tint was immediately visible. Had to get a refund. Will try buying another one from Bromley store, hopefully they have some from a different batch.
I got my first Ipad air replaced (DMPL) and they gave me another one (DMQL), which had the same screen problem.
I gave it back right away for another replacement, curious to see, what shows up on the next replacement.
I´m willing to give them one more try, and than its back to the law, and I will opt for a refund, hoping that apple one day or another is able to come up with spotless screens.
And again two devices tested. The same problem. Apple what it is now? I have now already 6 units exchanged. This is a joke right? 😐
What can we do Apple?
What production we can buy without any problems?
Surely looks seriously yellow , much worse than the 2nd I've just sent for replacement. I have a very poor confidence that I will receive a good one. But there won't be a fourth try, I'll let you know when I receive it for what it's worth.
