Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?
Hi, I have just got a new ipad air today. I am noticing that the left side of the screen has a yellow tint. Should I take it back for a replacement?

I also had my Ipad Air 128Gb replaced that had the yellow tint.
Since I bought my online in the Apple Store, I just received a replacement shipped from the factory in China.
The replacement Ipad is now perfect, no yellow tint on the left side.
So I guess replacement with local stock is not really a solution, since many of those might still be affected.
It also seems that all Ipads now produced seem to be ok.
Hi, Mikel_J,
Could you please tell us the first 5 digits of your new Ipad air's serial number?
By the way, according to my experience, there might be slightly ununiform brightness of the screen, just unnoticeable in normal use.
Congratulations for getting a good ipad air.
Just to follow up. I just got back from an Apple reseller at Emporium in Bangkok, Thailand where I tried to purchase another Air. This one also had a yellow screen on the left hand side that the sales person immediately recognized. He gave me the option to open another one and choose between the two or get a refund. Since this is my 3rd attempt, I opted to get my money back. The serial was DLXP like the replacement I received yesterday directly from China. This is it for me for real this time. I know I said it yesterday too, but this has become a bit of an obsession. Back to my iPad 3. Le sigh. Will wait until next year...
If I ended up a yellow or off-tint screen - after paying over $600 for the new device - flexing it backwards until the colors bleed seems like a bad idea. And dubious as a means of improving screen quality.
If this happened to me, I'd crow about my results and provide a wealth of specific details, as well as warnings about potential problems with flexing the screen. I'm not suggesting that the poster isn't honest - just that credibiliy is a potential issue with this one and only case of iPad screen flexure.
I still see yellow on the left side in that picture. Honestly it's not worth risking breaking the ipad and voiding all warranty coverage. I'd rather play roulette with the screens than twist my device. Yikes. That logic board is fragile.
The screen is pretty flexible and it won't break that easily. Looks like plastic to me. I can tell by the result that I do not notice ANY yellow tilt anymore, even if the picture is not that perfect.
Funny and almost dead on, missing the yellow from the top left corner going down and the book spine.
Since Apple is keeping quiet on it (in my opinion, because they want to deplete the current yelowish stock over the holidays), I was going to post this morning calling it a feature. Was working on an old B&W photo, the bottom half of the photo has a yellow tint, I was like, this almost looks like the iPad air screen.
Its Xmas season;
I'm dreaming of a white screen iPad, just like the one I used to have...
Thanks for asking, Audiochild.
I've been using this one for a week now and I'm still very pleased. I notice the overall tone is somewhat different than my iPhone 5 and rMBP but not by much. It's certainly more even than any others I've seen and that's all I ask. As long as I'm not holding it next to another screen whites look true. Perhaps the slightest bit more green on the left? But not enough to be distracting, it's a very good screen. Fifth letter in the serial number is "P"
Hope that helps! Good luck.
J.
Just opened a 16 GB black wifi model from WalMart and found the left side to be very yellow and much dimmer aking the edge. Incredibly irritating to read anything on. Glad I'm not the only one. I'm going to exchange it tomrorow and report back.
People, it seems like I just fixed my left side yellowish problem!
This is what I did.
1. Download an app called "ColorSpin"
2. Open the app and keep your ipad moving to change the color
3. Make sure you have all the color displayed on the entire screen before exit
I'm not sure what's going on, but it seems like it is the pixel coloring issue. People try it too, and let us know if this fixes this problem.
PuddingYA,
Did you by any chance load a black image to look at your screen?
Don't know about yours, but on the current iPAD Air I have, there is what I call a heavy light bleed at the bottom left corner of the screen and lighter one up towards the middle of the screen. At least on this iPad, in my opinion, the yellow I see its from the light bleed, maybe they ran out of pure white LEDs and used Warm White ones. Maybe the mineral batch for the LED lights changed, one thing is for sure, I'm not keeping this one. Store is out, have to wait until they get more in.
I don't think your trick will work for mine, but I'm going to check the app. Thanks for the tip.
PuddingYA,
displaying white is equivalent to display all other colours at once.
I think you just had the impression of the yellow disappearing because you were cheating your own eyes bye using certain colours. For your iPad it does not matter whether you display white or red, blue and green (or any combination of those).
Yeah... I'm getting the same thing you guys are. I'm on my second replacement (so my third iPad that I've had in the past month... ugh). The one I have currently is marginally better than the other ones, but I'm still going in -- today, actually -- to get it replaced. I'm pretty frustrated, since I have a friend with an iPad 3 that looks perfectly amazing and my original iPad's screen looks flawless as well (minus not having a retina display). When I went in the second time, the lad that helped me told me that "...sometimes it's an issue, you know, with the retina display, that there will be discolorations." Verbatim. This is utterly frustrating, seeing as I have an iPhone 5 and a retina Macbook Pro and don't have any issues with either. Apple, what is going on? I want to give you my money but you fail to make a product that looks okay, especially for over $600 (I got the 32 GB one)?
Well. Thought had it fixed, but when I come back after few hours, I see the yellow tint again (it must be my eyes getting used to it before). And now I even see a little bit shadowing along the left edge. Seriously don't know what to do :/ what if I exchange it and get something worse. I don't like this lottery game at all....
