Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?
Hi, I have just got a new ipad air today. I am noticing that the left side of the screen has a yellow tint. Should I take it back for a replacement?
iPad, iOS 7.0.3, Ipad Air

This is coming from someone who has the tint problem as well.
Is it annoying? Yes. Do I wish my iPad didn't have this problem? Yes. But does it make the iPad unusable? No, not in the slightest. It still performs and works like it should, and all of you who return it 3 or 4 or 5 times are ridiculous. Are you just going to return it until you get a "perfect" one? Don't go around looking for problems. If your device still works fine, there is no need to return it an extreme amount of times. Enjoy your iPad. I enjoy mine.
Like I said, I'm not oblivious to the problem. It is only noticeable in certain situations, but if I am actually using the iPad instead of looking for problems, it's fine.
Good luck.
We're certainly not looking for the perfect screen. We're just trying to get what we paid for. Being : a pad on which reading books, internet and magazines is ENJOYABLE. Reading with the left side of the screen yellow and bright white at the right side is NOT enjoyable. Makes sense ? We're not weirdos, OK?
If you love your iPad then don't come and post here that we should also be happy with our crappy expensive pads.
Do you think wasting our time with this returns and posting our frustration here is a game? No, it's a PAIN , sir.
j182,
Thanks for your reply. I agree. Returning and reordering online would be tedious but might be the best way to get an acceptable iPad. At first taking it to a local Apple Store for an exchange sounded more convenient until it's employees screw you up.
Hallo zusammen,
Man hilft ja gerne.
Hi, everyone,
Since you are still suffering the problem. I think I should share how I deal with it.
I had been waiting for Ipad Air for 3 months, for I heard it would be very light. And I mainly use the Ipad Air to download and read papers, that's why I don't want an Ipad 4, neither an ununiform screen.
When I bought the Ipad Air on its release, I found the problem and swapped it, then got a refund for the 2nd one. I thought Apple was going to solve the problem in a month. I was wrong.
So, I explored online and buy an 2048:1536 resolution pad, made in China, weighting 553g. It is very slow and crushing occationally, but has an uniform screen, and can download papers. By the way, it is very cheap, less than 150 USD. So I decide to stay with this product and wait for Ipad Air 2. Hope Apple would solve the problem for Ipad Air 2.
I live in Hong Kong, so I can easily buy an Chinese product.
Good luck!
.....Herr in Google English....
Hi there,
Sorry I'll post later in English, I'm just too acidic ...
I also, unfortunately, some airs down, all with yellow tinge, sometimes more, sometimes less.
Currently I have one with a delicate touch of nicotine on the left.
Long story short - I now get feedback on executive of Apple engineers. According to the guidelines of the yellow tinge is normal! Sorry, according to my guidelines so is a yellow tint is not normal!
Images sent to another iPad next to it for comparison, etc, etc. It helps so happy. Okay, well that was then. I pay about 600 euros for a faded display and then must be kidding me also.
I have just written an email to the TC are quite well again my frustration. For a 99 euro unit I would not tolerate for the money and the claim supposedly has the apple on himself, or rather had.
I can only recommend exchange to the doctor and mails to TC, so as someone is awake.
I exchanged mine yesterday, 128gb cellular-wifi first 5 digits of serial are DLXLQ.
Its not perfect and im still deciding whether or not my money has been well spent. I cant see any yellowing effect the colour looks good, things im not happy with for a top of the range model are: the home button seems to stick up a little bit, if you run your fingernail over the bottom of the screen you can feel it sticking up. Also its suffering from a tiny amount of backlight bleed near home button and right hand corners. Ill try upload a pic but not the best quality.

abacus01, I apologise for offending you by suggesting you may not be able to see LCD screen uniformity issues. There was no criticism intended. I find it nothing less than amazing the ways in which our brains interpret what our eyes see (for instance, our eyes can't see colour very well in the periphery but we think we see colour just fine, and that's because our brains fill in the missing information).
I've now seen about 40 iPad Airs and 20 Mini Retinas (mostly on display at Apple Stores) and I've not seen a single "perfect" one. None of my other iDevices are perfect either. I've also stood next to multiple Apple Store employees who could not see an obvious yellow gradient on an iPad Air screen - demonstrating the marvel of the human brain, though frustrating for me 🙂
On another note, I returned the DMRLT and decided to pick another Air up from an Apple Store - DMPLW. It's at least as good as the DMQLT I had previously, though what was a yellow gradient on previous Airs is now more of a darker or grey gradient. This is more tolerable so I'm going to give this a try for a little while. Bookspine effect still there, but that doesn't bother me too much.
Anyone who doubts my word. I'll tell you what. I'll meet you with my perfect ipad air. If its perfect you give me 1000.00 and i'll give you mine and i'll go to the apple store or target where i bought this one and get another perfect one. If its not perfect I give you 500.00. End of discussion. Alot of you guys are looking for perfection I get it totally. Unfortunately, some got thru production and arent perfect. My other two friends also have perfect ipad airs. So maybe some of you should have your eyes checked.
Why are you so offended that people in this forum dont want a yellow tinted ipad? So yours is perfect and/or the yellow tint doesnt bother you. That's great, I am glad you are enjoying your ipad - I wish I could be like that as well.
What I cannot understand is why you are on this forum expressing your disdain for people who dont want to accept the yellow tint.
Personally, I have had 1 ipad air, and 2 ipad mini retinas, all with yellow tint. I dont enjoy the product knowing that I purchased the most expensive tablet on the market in order to look at this (in my opinion) flawed screen. I came here to voice that opinion, so that Apple knows there are in fact people out there that are not satisfied with this level of quality. And frankly, I was happy to know that there were others out there experiencing the same frustration.
Of course, there are many out there that dont care about, or that dont even notice, the yellow tint That is fine. But for people on either side of the fence to berate and belittle those on the other side is just unproductive and without class.
Are there really have perfect screen iPad airs? (No yellow tint, no grayish/blueish/pinkish tint, no book spine, no light bleed, uniform white, uniform lighting, no dead pixels, no shadow, no dust underneath). Please confirm if anyone has a perfect "perfect" screen or I'm gonna get a refund and stop exchanging again.
Jkorpics, if you keep on buying a product from apple that over and over again doesnt look right, doesnt perform right, has one visual flaw youcant live with and youkeep exchanging it in hopes of finding perfection, then you have to ask
Yourself why you keep buying from thiscompany. I have purchased many products from different companies. When
The product fails most times after one purchase i may retun it once and try again. The second one or even the third one
i will usually look for one may by another company and never give companies like apple another dime, thats
Why i will post and continue to post when i read stuff like this just dont respond to a troll like me if thats what
You think i am. Why stop at ten retuns why not a hundred better yet see if you can get into the guiness book of
Records for the most ipads ever exchanged at apple. Hahaha
Hi abacus01, Did not think you were a troll just didnt understand some of your comments as they sounded rather hostile at times. Your response to me is spot on though. I did stop buying/returning after the 2 minis and an air.
I have tried a kindle which was decent, but was disappointed by their lack of integration with the google app store. I wanted to try a nexus 7, however the problem reports for those items are scary (broken screens, touch pads not responding, breaking after two months).
So for me it really comes down to whether not I want kindle's lack of apps or ipad mini's possible yellow tint. I have not decided yet - but the interface and integration with all other apple products is making me lean towards just buying one last mini dealing with the yellow tint(if in fact it were to have one).
Take care...
Fair enough jkorpics, I understand your frustration, I really do. Apple doesnt have great quality control, period. They've had problems on the macbook pro's. I for one have the retina, and its a samsung screen. it was great when i got it and now has 5 bad pixels and after being out of warranty apple wants close to 700 to replace the screen. I dont run out and buy everything they have I have an HTC one phone and i love it. So I do wish you well in your quest.
I've got the same problem. If I decide to wait for a few months until Apple sort out the problem will I still be covered to get an exchange? Is this also applicable if I do this in a different country to where I bought the ipad (I live in Spain but I bought the ipad while visiting family in the UK)?
