Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?
Hi, I have just got a new ipad air today. I am noticing that the left side of the screen has a yellow tint. Should I take it back for a replacement?
iPad, iOS 7.0.3, Ipad Air

This is my first apple product, i expected better for the price i paid for it, the slight yellow tint on the left is very distracting and im now left wondering what to do, do i replace it and get one with a similar problem or worse? will they even acknowledge the problem?
I purchased a Mac Mini to complement the iPad Air. Since Apple is not acknowledgeing such a wide-spread issue, I am no longer acknowledging them as a credible product. They pulled the same thing with the Apple Gate issue with having antenna issues on the release of the iPhone 4. What's even worst is that I understand that not every iPad you get will be perfect, but I do expect a certain level of quality.
The iPad Air screen is one of the worst screens/tablets considering the is better to be had in the market for a much lower price. I recommend returning it and getting a tablet from a company that cares about their products and making things right with their customers. They are almost laughable now.
Side note. The Mac Mini is having some major issues too with the Mavericks OS I updated it to. It would not properly wake up from sleep and frequently freeze under normal use. What a nightmare. I had none of these issues with Windows 8 or 8.1.
Apple has taken their time with replying to my emails that I sent in through customer support. I have recieved no support, so back to the store these two items go. I recommend you do the same and save yourself some money by going with a higher quality product for less money.
I have picked up my last iPad today - not sure how many I've tried anymore - but it's actually worse than the one I got at launch. No book spine effect but disgustingly yellow along the left hand side and white on the right. I've had the same problems with the Mini Retina.
So, now I will return this and for the first time since the iPad was launched, I won't have an iPad at all. I have a Galaxy Note 8 that I got new for £200 and the screen is much better than any of the iPads I've tried since November.
What a disappointment. I'm afraid I'm heading for Android land for my 10" tablet now. Shame on you Apple.
I received an iPad Air as a birthday present about a week ago (space gray, 128gb wifi, DMPLQ). Like many of you, my Air has yellow tint on the left portrait side of the screen. My eyes are very good at noticing things like this so I can't not see it no matter how hard I try.
Some background: I'm coming from an iPad 1. I skipped iPad 2 when it was released and went for iPad 3 as my 1's replacement. The 3, the first iPad with retina, had bad color issues. I went through three or four 3's and each one had something like a side of the screen being pink or and entire side being much darker than the other (dark enough that it was hard to read on that side). I finally returned the 3 and decided to wait for a future iPad release.
Back to today: So now I have an iPad Air with yellow tint on the left side. There's also a bit of bookbinding on the left and backlight bleeding in some places, but neither of those are severe enough to bother me much. The lack of color uniformity is what bugs me. It's only really noticeable on white screens, so things like games and videos are unaffected. Unfortunately, white screens are the majority of what I use an iPad for: web browsing, email, reading docs, reading manga.
I could try exchanging my Air; however, my experience with the iPad 3 tells me the odds of getting a good screen are pretty much nil. Then there's the option of going with an Android tablet. From a software standpoint I know this would be a bad move (sorry Android, I like your openness and price but not your hardware fragmentation).
tl;dr
I guess I'll stick with my half yellow Air. The intensity of the tint isn't nearly as bad as I've seen on 3's and 4's. Coming from an iPad 1 that is forever stuck in iOS 5 and can crash at any moment within any app, getting an iPad Air should have been a dream come true. It's ridiculous that Apple hasn't fixed this by now. Maybe I will pick up AppleCare and try an exchange later down the line...
Cantisama, that you had similar screen issues with the iPad 3 is interesting. If I hadn't seen so many Airs/Mini Retinas with uniformity issues I would have more hope that I'd get a decent Air screen. An upgrade from my iPad 3 (which does have a decent screen) would be useful. Though I decided to play the lottery again and I ordered another Air. If this one is bad I might order a refurbished iPad 4 and just hope that Apple increases their standards for screen uniformity in the future. Though I fear that I'll get a non-uniform iPad 4 screen as well!
Even if most people's brains subconsciously adapt to the non-uniformity (it's not an issue of having "good eyes") Apple should make the best devices possible simply because that's what they say they do. Or at least lower their premium pricing...
I RECIVED NOW A IPAD AIR 32GB WITH WHITE WHITEEE SCREEEN!!!!!
PERFECT WHITE, but only one problem, the back light issue, its very important this point and I need change again. but its good news.
The serial is: DMPLX
The white is white, do you say book spine to the grey shadow on the left side of the screen? No, the screen is white, but i try to take a picture and saturate the photo and the right side is the most white but impossible to see with eyes, only in a sayurate photo.
The big problem is the back light problem, you can check the photo.
With the ipad on hands the problem is more notorius.
Today, i received DMPLX too (iPad Air WiFi 32GB Space gray) and it has the best display what i have ever seen! No yellow, no bookspine, no backlight bleed (unlike Nadagon), no brighter right side, just perfect screen 🙂
I’ve just received a new replacement from Staples. The serial is: DMPL8 and the production week: 34(August). It came with ios 7.0.4 already installed. The ios 7.0.4 was released on Nov 14 2013. it's kind of strange!? from previous buyer installed the update and returned it?
I received my latest iPad Air today, DMQLX (week 52). I was initially optimistic, but after a little while I noticed it has a somewhat pinker hue across the right 1/3rd of the screen. The left is slightly darker with a very slight yellow hue, which itself isn't bad enough to bother me, but the slight yellow and slight pink together are somewhat distracting.
With Nadagon and 50Marcus50 getting uniform displays with DMPLX it makes me want to keep trying...!
I made an Apple Store appointment for Saturday. I wasn't going to go through replacements again like I did with iPad 3, but I really want to be able to have a good iPad Air to replace my iPad 1. I will ask if they have a DMPLX 128gb space gray wifi.
So I got an Air with the yellow screen issue. I was initially apprehensive for trading it in for a replacement for fear of getting a unit that was worse, but decided to go for it and request a replacement.
I can report that the replacement unit I received was significantly better. Not perfect (still a slight discoloration between areas of the screen), but you have to go out of your way to notice it. For all intents and purposes, the yellowing problem is absent. The trade-off is that there is a slight amount of blacklight bleed with this unit that I didn't have with the first one, but the significant reduction in the yellowing more than off-sets it IMHO.
For the record, the unit is also a DMPLX.
I presume you described the problem with your first iPad Air to them? I'm inquiring because I do online orders and I'm considering doing a replacement if my next Air isn't decent. I'm wondering your experience.
I received my 2nd replacement yesterday at the store (My previous one had dark shadow problem on the left and the replacement unit they offered at the store had the exact same problem.I got the 2nd replacement in another apple store in Germany) . Upon examinations at the store there was not much noticed but while viewing pages on Safari and reading ebooks there is this sickening yellow tint on the screen and it is not only on the left side. 70% of the screen has this tint and only a small portion on the right looks perfect white. It is much visible using the screen keyboard . The serial is DMPLK.
There is no option left other than asking for another replacement. If it goes on like this I am afraid I will have ask for a refund, although I need this iPad for my work and studies and love it so much!
My experience was pretty positive. I just told them the screen was discoloured and they offered to send the replacement right away with no hassles. Like I said, the replacement isn't perfect but it's a definite step up from the original.
