Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?

Hi, I have just got a new ipad air today. I am noticing that the left side of the screen has a yellow tint. Should I take it back for a replacement?

iPad, iOS 7.0.3, Ipad Air

I'm airless now, the yellow tint wasn't as bad, on this last one, but the book spine on the left side, being darker on the top 1/3 of the acreen and book spine on the right, darker about 1.5 inches on the bottom was quite distracting, especially when scrolling pages or web articles. The light bleed was also a little to heavy.

For those of you talking about Samsung screens, I replaced the air with a Note, and it has a slight yellow tint and book spine also. Yellow tint is at the bottom of the screen, book spine on both sides, but not to dark, was going to exchange it, but they were out of them, but for the price I paid for it and the extended return and warranty, I'm living with it for now. I'll be honest, the more I use it and the spen, the more I like it. I would still buy an iPad air, if I found one with a decent screen.

Johannes, since your entire screen is yellow I wonder if this trick will work for you - do an internet search for "[Tutorial] iPad Yellow Problem FIX SOLUTION". The OP has photos which shows his iPad 3's screen getting less yellow. It didn't work for everyone on the thread, but there are others on that thread who it did work for. Worth a shot. This trick more than likely will have no effect for non-uniform yellow hues however.

I was going to buy an iPad Air today but I faced a pinkish hue on one side with my iPad 3 , so I thought I would google if there is an issue with the iPad Air and here I am.

I am not in America, and I can not return my iPad for not having correctly lit screen (Even though I did pay for it!), my best chance is to wait it out until the issue is fixed from the production line.

Any one remember how long it took to fix the issue with the iPad 3? Any way I can tell from the serial which month production is an iPad?

Unfortunately screen uniformity issues are totally common in edge lit LED screens, and I think it's worse with the Airs since a large screen is being lit by only one side (as I understand it). The problem is further exacerbated by iOS 7's whiteness. Maybe we can hope Apple's manufacturing will improve but don't count on it.

If you're wanting an Air I think the best bet is to just keep trying until you find one you think is decent, or wait an unknown period of time until "light guide" technology improves in the industry or Apple changes their designs.

I am going to spend about $700 on this, I really do not want to get half-decent screen. If it was something cheap like $150 maybe... but at this price it better be perfect.

Its just stupid that this issue was around 2 years ago and Apple is so arrogant to fix it because they knew it will sell like crazy any way. There was a time when Apple really cared about quality control

Apple has changed, I can still remember the day I opened my iPad 2, that was full of amaze. But few days ago when I opened the box of my new iPad air, I feel disappointed for the yellow tint and the very left side was darker. It turned out the first thing was to contact customer service for replacement, instead of enjoying this new device. BTW, Apple you really should give your quality control glasses, they are clearly screwing with you!

It's absolutely frustrating for all of us, but people who notice the uniformity are in the small minority so why would Apple not sell iPads to the millions of customers who want one just because of us? Things become clearer when we realise that screen uniformity issues have existed since the first backlit LCD displays (including televisions), and especially edge-lit LED. It seems that the Airs and Mini Retinas are worse than average, but no one really knows why. Just be glad for Apple's easy return policy - for all we know, this is Apple's way of dealing with it.

If you are expecting a perfect screen because it costs $700, I'm afraid you better hold off buying. After several exchanges I have an Air with a very good screen (slightly dimmer on the far left side only noticeable on white backgrounds) but not a "perfect screen" like my ipad 4 has. Compared to the first 3 I purchased with yellowish-green tinted screens this one is beautiful. The lighter weight and smaller size of the device more than make up for the fact that it isn't quite "perfect". My guess is that people reporting that their Airs are perfect just aren't quite as picky as some of us who are looking for perfection. After using an ipad 4 that really does have a perfect bright white screen with no tints anywhere, it was hard for me to settle for a yellow tinted screen. If you can be happy with slightly less than perfect, they are out there.

Oh no. You got "one of those". I love the iPad Air that I have NOW. But I'm on my 3rd one. Why? Same issue you're having. This looks like something that operations management may have missed (regarding batches of faulty screens). Which is weird since Tim Cook is the former COO and you would think quality issues regarding product line and manufacturing would be a spotlight under his tenure.

This is what I did. When I went back to the Apple Store to swap in my original yellow tinted iPad Air, I told the guy at the Genius Bar to WAIT as I opened and turned on the newly swapped iPad Air in front of him. And what happened? Same thing. They come in batches. My guess is if you know of a friend who got a "yellow tinted" iPad Air, ask that person which store they got it from for that store may have a batch of them.

The iPad Air I have now has a manufacturer's code that starts with DMQL (manufactured by Samsung) and it's perfect. The colors are a lot more pleasing than the last iPad Air I recently had (that and the yellow tint was horrible).

I had the same experience. I picked up my Air launch day at the Apple store and it had a yellow tinted screen. I took it back for replacement and the one I opened had the same yellow tint. The genius advised me to try another store as the ones they had were from the same batch and likely to be the same. My 3rd try was at BB and that one also had a yellow tint and I returned it. My 4th and last try was at another local Apple store and I got a great if not perfect screen that I'm very happy with.

I may have in fact done something stupid, but the bookspine effect on the Air I decided to keep turned out to be too distracting in a couple of document-based apps I use. So, I returned it. Looks like I've entered the lottery again 😟 At an Apple Store I saw one Mini Retina with a really nice screen, so I decided to try the Mini Retina lottery for a little bit.

For those people posting experiences, can you post the first 5 digits of your serial numbers? However unlikely, it might reveal a trend.

I've been having the same problem and it's been very frustrating! I've returned 4 iPad Airs already since the beginning of November (all have been the space gray wifi models, the first two were 16gb and the other two were 32gb). What are the first 5 letters of the serial for the Ipad Air that you got with a good screen & is it the gray one or the white one?

I tried using a couple of the iPad Airs for a couple of weeks before I took them back and leaving them on full brightness with white backrounds but it made no difference. I won't buy another one until I have better chances of getting one with a good screen because I can't keep returning these. I've been trying to find one starting with serial DMPLX (production week 52) because these seem not to be having as many problems, but no luck so far. I've been without an iPad for 3 weeks and about to give up! The iPad Airs that I have had all have had much early production weeks, like DMPLQ and have had terrible bookspines and/or really bad yellow tint on the left. I mostly read books on these so it's really noticeable and distracting on the white background. I think the issue may be that the display backlights are unable to evenly light up the whole screen. If anyone else has found an an iPad air with an even screen please let me know what the serial starts with and the model/color.

Thank you!

I've had about 8 in total and have stuck with the one I have. It's a week 52 DMPLX -got it from Apple online about 3 weeks ago. I ordered one a few days before and it came and was perfect but it had a dead pixel. It was a week 50 DMQLV.

This one I have now has a slight book spine but the screen is mostly even. I've found that book spine equals more even screen. No book spine equals half yellow screen.

I gave up on the rMini - had the same issues with them - yellow screens and have purchase a Nexus 7 LTE for my portable which has a perfect screen out of the box first time.
