Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?
Hi, I have just got a new ipad air today. I am noticing that the left side of the screen has a yellow tint. Should I take it back for a replacement?
iPad, iOS 7.0.3, Ipad Air

Same problem here (UK).
Had my IPad Air since the 1st of November.Only noticed it today when i used the Ipad in portrait & noticed it was discoloured on the left side.Used google and found this thread.
I mostly use it in landscape & now notice it in that too.If i flip it right round in landscape mode the address bar in safari is has a yellow-ish darker tint.

And that confirms that this yellowness is not an optical illusion, as it follows you when you turn them around.
Having half side discolored is a problem. Not good in my book. Look, I don't hate Apple. I want them to succeed by selling real good quality products. Not for myself, but I will be getting one (iPad Mini w/ Retina) for my Dad for Christmas present. I just hope he won't complain about the display flaw..... I know he is a lot less sensitive than I when it comes to visuals.

I have the exact same issue here, darker and yellowish tint on the left hand side. Bought an iPad Air 64 with the issue, had it replaced with a 128 which also suffer that extremely annoying display problem. The serial is a DPMLJ.
We must not give up.. I read some people made 4 replacement before they got a correct iPad.
Apple should really soon make some point. I am really upset. Nearly 800 euros for some low quality stuff. Geez....
I'm from The Netherlands and I have the exact same problem. Well, it's not yellow in my case, but purple/pinkish. It's about 2cm in width from top to bottom (in portrait-mode on the left side). If I've have a white background, I even see some purple tints at the bottom and on the right :S.
I'm sending it back and I'm getting a new one, but if I read this thread, I'm doubtful if it will solve anything.
I also have the yellow tint issue on the left hand side. Seems to be at least 1/3 to 1/2 of the left side is yellow. The right hand side is crisp white and clear. My serial is DMPLK.
I called in to Apple and I can return it at any time for a replacement. My strategy is to live with this one for a month probably two and then swap. Hopefully by then this will be sorted.
I have this issue too. I had a dark blue edge on the first Air I bought, returned that one only to get one with yellow tint over half the screen. Can't believe this isn't getting mentioned in tech press, seems to be very widespread. I have an Ipad 4 and Mini that are perfect, I was going to sell them to counter the cost of the Air but think I'll keep hold of them now.
The worst thing is I have to get several buses and a train to get to my closest Apple store thats £10 a time to return it. So now I'm going to have paid £20 extra. My worry is I'll end up with another defective unit(difficult to see in store because of their lighting) and it'll cost me even more.
I think the lesson here is not to buy anything until a few months after release when the issues have been sorted.

You tell me if there's a problem? The variation in shading across the screen is just from the camera and not how it looks to the eye. Incidentally Feint is a variant of faint so it is not incorrect.
I see uneven whites already. But try taking your iPad in the dark (i.e. your closet) and take pics again. Also try with lower brightness as cameras can't always capture lighting well and are inaccurate. Need good camera and good picture taking skills... this is not something everyone can do.
I've been tracking this thread for several days since I found the dark problem. I believe there are more people out there who don't reply to this for some reason and got the same problem. Went to Bestbuy this Wednesday, and they told me they see no defects on my device. I admit it's not quite noticeable under daylight or bright lights, but it's clear to have this darker left hand side problem in my dorm. The bestbuy guys refused to make a replacement, for they insisted that they saw no dark strips. I'll wait until next Wednesday to see if it can fix itself. Otherwise, I'll just return it. Honestly, i don't think it will get any better, because I have left it with maximum brightness and white background for three days, nothing happened. DMPLK, US.
Hello, i have the same problem, left part of the screen is yellow (and darker). I am from Prague, Czech republic and my serial number starts DMPLJ...my ipad is the most expensive one, 128giga cellular. So much money and so much dissapoitment! Where is the quality control??
Panels from LG are totally inferior to Samsung it seems, why don't you label iPad's with the sticker - screen from LG or Samsung? It's a lottery! Different quality for the same amount of money!
I checked light leakage around sides and that's ok but still one side is noticably yellower and darker, seems like LED's are different there or the whole LG panel is some crappy technology, i am annoyed totally, i don't want to go again to the shop where i bought it because i fear that they will not give me Samsung panel and i can be dissapointed again with the same problem :(((
No much yellow tint, I don't think I got the yellow problem, but it's definitely darker on the left hand side. Plus, all the airs I've seen in the bestbuy have the same problem. Even the ones on exhibition and in staffs hands.
Unfortunately I have got the same issue. Bought mine in London on 2nd of November.
DMPLG. Left side is bright and yellow and right side is dark and blue. Also have got the so called book spine issue on the left side. Disappointed with the quality will take it back tomorrow to Apple Store and try to exchange it. If I can't find a good one I will simply return it for the time being.
Returned my ipad air this evening. Unfortunately I can't justify spending almost $1000.00 for something that is inferior to my current ipad 3. The book spine issue is too distracting and is definitely a result of the decrease in LED's to try and save weight and energy. I have tried two separate units and have looked at all sorts of display models in the city. (Located in Canada.) The screen is hands down THE most important aspect of any tablet and for Apple to give in and allow this lack of attention to detail in the design is so disappointing. I can't help but think that Steve Jobs would not have allowed this to happen.

Amazing eyesight and thanks for the photography tips. The purpose of my poor quality iphone photo was not to judge the whole screen, which does not display any variation in either shading or colour casts to the eye (nor to the eyes of my colleagues), but to see if the so called "bookspine" effect is visible down the left side. As I have already stated it's barely perceptible if it's there at all.
For anyone wanting to have a totally blank white page download a free app called Colorspin Flashlight. This will display a wide spectrum of colours and double tapping the screen will show white.
The following are quoted from a Macrumors thread on the same subject - very apt! I'm done with this now, good luck to those with real issues.

Do yourself a favor, if you don't notice it, your golden! Don't try to find it enjoy your iPad.
Once you find something like this it will drive you crazy until you take it back.
I wish I never read this thread, as soon as I get my iPad I'm going to be looking for this now"
"I have it, it looks like but it's very very light. It's like there it is, wait no I don't see it, wait ehh a little bit. So ill probably end up keeping it."
Sorry for my English
Here, my second exchange. Still got the yellow left side on the Air.
How can it be that we always have to fear with the new Apple Products? We are far away from what Apple was under Jobs. Random quality from the screen's, scuffs, bugs etc...
I'm using Apple since 1995. I'm 34 and i'll look forward for a switch.
Sorry Apple, but this is a joke, how can you sell iPads with such screens? A real No-Go!!!

That's sad news 😟 I've been using Apple products for over 20 years and I agree with you. Quality was rarely an issue before.
Were the serials on both iPads also starting with DMPL?
