Window display issues in Mavericks after wake from sleep

I have tried all of these different suggestions, but I ended up getting the display in Outlook 2011 fixed by going to the "View" column and toggling the "Navigation Pane" off and back on.

I'll add a "me too".

Clearing caches, safe mode etc may briefly stop it but it soon returns.

MacBook Air 13 inch mid 2012.

Fine before upgrading to Mavericks.

Happens when used alone or with a LG 23" screen via the display port/HDMI.

Temp fixes I use:

* If using a monitor I unplug it and plug it back in

* If stand alone, I just go back to the lock screen/activate the screen saver and put my password in again

Both make the windows usable again.

I'll do as others have said, keep submitting feedback. Come on Apple though, this bug has been around too long now. It's very inconvenient and seems quite wide spred.

Have you updated to Mavericks 10.9.2 ?

Yes, 10.9.2 seems to have fixed it.

My MacMini (Latest Mac OS version) changes its monitor setting when the monitor goes to sleep.

Try disabling "Automatic Graphics Switching" under Energy Saver -> Power Adapter in the System Preferences.

update to my earlier post (Feb 20) - I mentioned the problem might happen frequently then other times not at all for days or weeks... or months. well a few months have passed without being annoyed by this problem then today it suddenly started happening again.

I'm not sure what triggered the re-occurence this evening, I'm following my same routine and have not changed any settings nor installed or updated anything new since earlier today when the problem was not happening.

at the moment it is happening on each and every trip to the Login Window and back via Fast User Switching (no computer sleep in between). All the application and Finder windows get moved to top left corner, and the top edge my iTunes window which was open before going to the Login Window gets "stuck" above the Finder's menu bar. Using iTunes menu command Window->Zoom brings its window back to normal space

very annoying, and yes as I mentioned previously booting in Safe Mode did not clear the problem. and I have no idea why it suddenly started happening again just a half hour ago, after all these months. btw I'm running 10.9.3

I'm having this too: on wake, windows all scrunched up into upper right corner, and all much reduced in size. It happens to Word 2008 docs as well as other applications. For now, during my work day, I just mostly turn on Caffeine, an excellent free app that keeps your computer awake with a single click on the coffee cup icon. But of course this is no real solution. I might add that waking my Mac from sleep is always something of an adventure. Sometimes it takes a long time and some loud dings. Other times my external monitor is tinted pink. Other times still, the mouse pointer takes on a pinkish penumbra. (There are separate threads on all this pink stuff.) For the record, I am running the latest version of Mavericks (10.9.4) on a 15" Macbook Pro 2ghz Core i7, usually connected to a Hannspree monitor.

This is still happening in Yosemite. Safe Mode restart didn't even fix it once.

Finally figured out what the problem is. It has to do with the method Apple uses handling the S3 sleep function. On the newer Macs (ones that are "always on" -- those lovely features that check your email when the lid is closed), there is a small amount of power that is still going to the thunderbolt and usb ports so that when you resume, you're laptop is ready to go. On the older Macs (pre-Retina?), it completely conserves power to these devices, ipso facto, your TB and USB are shut down from power and don't resume nicely.

Check your global hibernation mode:

# pmset -g | grep hibernatemode

Set your charging/powered hibernation mode:

# pmset -c hibernatemode 0

Or just set your hibernate mode globally:

# pmset -g hibernatemode 0

mvfx this sounds promising. I have a 2014 Mac Pro with a monitor connected via DisplayPort. Is this solution applicable for this configuration?
