With new iOS 7, video streaming takes up phone's capacity

I noticed that with the new iOS, your videos (movies, television shows, music videos) are readily available to stream in the Videos app. But whenever you stream the video, it actually takes up storage in your iPhone. Everytime a video is being watched, your available storage capacity in your phone keeps on getting decreased quite significantly. And there's no way to delete the storage it's taking up, I think whenever a video is being streamed, the streaming file is being kept under the "Others" category because when you plug your phone ito iTunes, the "Others" section shows a huge amount of storage being taken up. Has anybody seen the same thing? And if so, is there a fix to this problem? Because my storage capacity is diminishing everytime I stream a video and the whole point of streaming a video is to NOT have it take up space in my phone's hard drive memory but unfortunately, it is taking up space in my phone's memory. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated or maybe Apple is coming up with a solution hopefully.

Hi all,

I have noticed this 'glitch' when streaming LotR HD from iTunes on my iPhone 5 16GB. Restored the phone to the factory settings a few times now and eventhough I stopped streaming movies from iTunes, the 'other' folder is up to 8 GB again. I think when you watch videos on the web it also consumes space. Hopefully Apple comes up with a solution soon.

I had the same isssue with streaming from itunes video on my iPad2 . I was able delete and free up memory by going to Settings then selecting Videos on the sidebar. Then I turned off Show All Videos and returned to the video app. I then selected one I had already watched (via streaming), held down and dragged left to reveal a delete button, selected it. The app closed out each time I did it but I was able to remove the videos and thus freeing up a ton of memory. Hope this helps! User uploaded file

I've been having this problem too. There was an app for iPhone and iPad called "iclean" that would clear out all your "Other" space. Not sure if it's still in the app store. I cannot currently find the app i'm referring to. I was a clunky app but it worked.

I've called support on this and they had no idea what I'm talking about. No fix from Apple.

Apple needs to fix this. This issue is the only problem I'm having with my devices (iPhone 5, iPad mini, iPad 2, iPhone 4s). Apple claims that their products and services work seamlessly but in this they are wrong. It's not like I'm using a third party app or something! This is the most frustrating thing in the world of Apple.

Apple, I love your products and I plan to continue using them but please fix this. I beg you.

Kjfrear - this worked with a TV show. Haven't tried it on a movie yet. But it's a step in the right direction! Also, I figured out a solution for music. If it shows data under Settings-General-Usage-Music, click on. Music and then swipe to delete the data it says is there. It showed I had 55 mb. When I deleted it, it freed up 2 gb of data! I use iTunes Match so it's no wonder there was some extra data stolen from my device due to streaming. Keep up the solutions guys!

YES. THIS. ⚠ Anyone having this iCloud-stream-using-up-memory issue and wants a super easy and quick alternative to a factory reset needs to pay attention to gnprice's post.

I'm not sure why people are overlooking his/her post but last night I streamed a couple minutes of an episode of The Office that I had on iCloud and ended up using 500 MB - 1 GB of my already scarce memory. I looked for an alternative to a hard reset of my iPhone 5S and tried out the link on his/her post and voila! 1GB back, just like that.

Took about 2 minutes. The app on http://www.ibrowseapp.com/ just simply lets you access the files and folders on your iDevice through your Mac that you normally would not be able to do on an iDevice, whereas you can on an Android device, and it's completely free. I know I sound like an endorser but I'm just so glad it saved me from a hard reset and saved me hours otherwise. So you can go under the appropriate folder and delete the iCloud video caches that derived from streaming.

The only reason it took me 2 minutes was because I had to figure out which folder to go under through someone else's post on another thread on the Apple forums. So I'll save you an extra minute - click the "CloudAssets" folder and delete the things taking up space in the folder. It even shows how much space the iCloud video stream caches are taking up so you can know for sure those files are the ones that came from streaming the iCloud videos.

*Careful with tampering with the other files though - if files other than the ones under the "CloudAssets" folder, the DCIM folder (pictures/videos taken with the iDevice), and some others are messed with, it could potentially cause some problems with your iDevice.
