No sound on iPad 3 after iOS 7 update.

After upgrading my third-generation iPad to iOS 7 (now running 7.0.3), no sound comes out of the speakers. Now, I have to use headphones. Apple says it's a hardware issue, but as soon as I upgraded to 7, the speakers died. Does anyone have a solution? Between myself and the "Geniuses" at Apple, we have tried all of the usual stuff (restart, reset, reset all settings, etc). The only thing Apple suggested is that I buy a new iPad (imagine that). I feel like this happened on purpose so that I would buy a new device. I didn't purchase AppleCare when I bought the iPad in March 2012, and I feel like Apple is purposefully going after those people without care plans and disabling their devices in some small but important way when we download the iOS 7 update (Plenty of people online have complained of the same thing that has happened to my device.). Further, Apple refuses to roll back my iPad to a previous OS...they've covered their bases and they're hoping we don't fight back while they work to keep this ridiculous (in my opinion, manufactured) glitch out of public discussion. So...any ideas on fixing the device rather than replacing it at cost?

Yeah...that's not the problem with my iPad. I've complained to the Better Business Bureau, and am just waiting to hear back. I should not have to buy a new iPad when an Apple update makes my current device function incorrectly.

I'd be ****** too, but have you tried taking it to the Apple store for a genius to take a look at? Even if it is out of warranty they will still try to solve your problem.

Of course; after trying all of the home remedies, I went to an Apple store where the tech basically repeated everything I already tried and then told me that the "fix" was to buy a new iPad (see my original post). And yes, I asked, and Apple refused to revert my device to iOS 6.

What solved this for me:

Settings>Do NotDisturb>Silence - changed from "Always" to "Only while iPad is locked"

I visited the "Geniuses" at Apple; as a software developer, I don't put much stock in their abilities to diagnose malfunctions (over my own). So, all the tech did was try the same things I already did. Then he told me I should buy a new iPad.

I don't know if it will help cornelius, but Apple just released iOS 7.0.4 with some minor fixes.

Ok, so after upgrading my ipad2 to ios 7.0.4 I still can't hear sound. After fiddling around with it, I noticed that on Airplay option it only has my Apple TV and Dock connection as options, no ipad. Therefore it is basically sending the sound to no mans land since I don't have a dock. Without the ipad option, we are not going to hear anything unless we use headphones or a dock. I am on the phone with Apple trying to get a resolution for this. I'll let you know what they say.

So after speaking with a Senior at Apple, we did a factory reset from Itunes. After the reset the volume worked. We restored my back-up and the volume didn't work again. So there is an app or other software issue that is causing the no sound. He will be calling me back tomorrow evening to get my ipad set-up correctly. If we can narrow it down, I will post tomorrow on what it was.

Well, just got back from the Apple Store with a new Ipad2, courtesy of Apple. For whatever reason, my speakers just went out, so the gentleman I spoke to at Apple replaced it for me.
