No sound on iPad 3 after iOS 7 update.

After upgrading my third-generation iPad to iOS 7 (now running 7.0.3), no sound comes out of the speakers. Now, I have to use headphones. Apple says it's a hardware issue, but as soon as I upgraded to 7, the speakers died. Does anyone have a solution? Between myself and the "Geniuses" at Apple, we have tried all of the usual stuff (restart, reset, reset all settings, etc). The only thing Apple suggested is that I buy a new iPad (imagine that). I feel like this happened on purpose so that I would buy a new device. I didn't purchase AppleCare when I bought the iPad in March 2012, and I feel like Apple is purposefully going after those people without care plans and disabling their devices in some small but important way when we download the iOS 7 update (Plenty of people online have complained of the same thing that has happened to my device.). Further, Apple refuses to roll back my iPad to a previous OS...they've covered their bases and they're hoping we don't fight back while they work to keep this ridiculous (in my opinion, manufactured) glitch out of public discussion. So...any ideas on fixing the device rather than replacing it at cost?

If everytime my iPad had lost sound I went to the Apple Store... it would have cost me another iPad just on Gas...

Unfortunately there are a lot of possibilities for sound problems - most of them are really simple. Some, not so much. I helped so much people on this 'sound matter' that I ended up making a short video:

http://youtu.be/SDf1LDcE95Q

(1min 36sec)

It covers the basics:

- checking side-switch / mute / "Control Center"

- volume all up

And also whe worst cases:

- closing all apps (for rare cases when a single app might render the sound system instable)

- rebooting the iPad

There are people who reported having forgotten an audio-bluetooth connection activated with a turned-off sound-system or speakers...

So, don't get desparete: try the things in the video. And if you have used Air-Play, a docking-connector with a stereo system or bluetooth speakers, you should make sure you 'undo' this selection.

Device: ipad 3 wifi and 3g

OS: 7.1.1 (updated to the latest)

Bluetooth Device: none

airplay: none

sim: none

No Sound (within the last 10 days)

installed latest updates

sound falls off without any specific trigger

volume slider in control center (when swiping from bottom of screen) is gone

tried reboot several times (hold HOME and POWER until APPLE logo appears) - problem persists

Side switch (above volume) set to rotation lock - tried on mute - problem persists

Tried Siri ("Sound" reply with audio and for some reason can adjust volume again but closing siri and issue back) - audio is good

Tried youtube - no sound

All Apps up to date

Changed language to different one and back again 3 days ago - ISSUE SOLVED

Next day Issue back - Tried fix - ISSUE SOLVED AGAIN

Following Day - All used languages previously are not displaying volume slider in control center

Tried changing to new languages (other than what's been used) - volume slider present

while in a different language tried all apps - all are with sound 🙂 (now if I can only understand Chinese,Japanese, Eastern European Languages... lol)

CONCLUSION: BUG!!!

Solution: Bug Fix (Just updated to latest updates today hoping issue will be sorted out... 😟)

Commentary: If you're told to buy new apple products because of such issues when clearly this is a bug it is

1. person you're talking to doesn't have a clue ( Scenario: I have an issue with my computer and immediate response is try to reformat your hdd)

2. Sales quota for month and/or quarter not yet met

3. Latest notice for os update was yesterday so next one will be in a day?week?month?

If you have no volume slider in Control center bar at the bottom, wiggle the charging port tongue with your fingernails or with the charger connector while plugged. You will see the volume slider pop up and you have sound. Its a problem with the port becoming loose, affecting the speaker next to it, not software. Hope this saves you guys some frustration. That's why they tell you you need a new iPad, but don't tell you why.

I had exactly the same problem with no fix, no suggestion was working at all. After I watched this video on youtube I tried and fixed my problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zd2o17zxm5A

I just clean the entrance with alcohol and than it started working. It's a pitty that you don't use your ipad anymore but i am definetely sure that it would fix it.
