No sound on iPad 3 after iOS 7 update.

After upgrading my third-generation iPad to iOS 7 (now running 7.0.3), no sound comes out of the speakers. Now, I have to use headphones. Apple says it's a hardware issue, but as soon as I upgraded to 7, the speakers died. Does anyone have a solution? Between myself and the "Geniuses" at Apple, we have tried all of the usual stuff (restart, reset, reset all settings, etc). The only thing Apple suggested is that I buy a new iPad (imagine that). I feel like this happened on purpose so that I would buy a new device. I didn't purchase AppleCare when I bought the iPad in March 2012, and I feel like Apple is purposefully going after those people without care plans and disabling their devices in some small but important way when we download the iOS 7 update (Plenty of people online have complained of the same thing that has happened to my device.). Further, Apple refuses to roll back my iPad to a previous OS...they've covered their bases and they're hoping we don't fight back while they work to keep this ridiculous (in my opinion, manufactured) glitch out of public discussion. So...any ideas on fixing the device rather than replacing it at cost?

I have an iPad 3 and also had no sound out of the blue. I tried every way I could but without any luck until I randomly started looking at my iCloud setting for no good reason, then the clicking sound from keyboard suddenly came out of the speaker. It was very strange and didn't make any sense but somehow it triggered the sound to come back.

What I exactly did was I went in settings > iCloud > storage & backup > your device > show all apps.

Hope this helps but I know everyone's remedy can be different.

There was also another place I noticed sound settings (which included mute) when messing with my iPad the other day that seemed odd - wish I could remember where it was. If you haven't yet I would tap on each option in the settings page, and scroll through every option on the right.

They have added too many ways to mess with sound in my opinion. There is one under the do not disturb setting, the lock screen button setting, airplay, etc...

Today I started having the same problem that you describe with my iPad - the sound would only work with headphones.

The only time sound came out of the speaker on the iPad was when I went into "Sounds" under settings and tested the overall "ringer and alerts" volume slider and tried different ringtones. I could hear the ringtones, but when I went into any other type of system sound (text tone, new mail, sent mail, etc.) I got nothing, and also no sound in music or video apps. Everything worked fine with headphones.

Very strange. I updated my iPad to OS 7.04 this morning - don't know if the update caused the problem.

Anyway, I tried everything mentioned in this thread (and nothing helped). Finally, I went into "Music" under settings and turned on "Sound Check." Then I went back to my music app and pressed play. The iPad seemed to be doing some sort of recalibration, and then the sound started working again. So bizarre.

Hope this is helpful. Good luck!

The same thing happend to my IPAD 3 today. I was watching a vedio and suddenly I lost the sound.

I did everything that is suggested in this post like 1. restarting with homebutton and start button 2. reset all settings 3. changing sound setting in music 4. upgarde it to 7.0.4 (befor it was 7.0.3)

But none of it works !!

My IPAD3 sound is still not working with speaker

Please help!!

I just had this happen after installing a youtube app for my son.

After several things mentioned here, I fixed my iPad by setting the lock switch to set Mute (it was set to the Rotation Lock). I then exited settings and toggled the lock key back and forth so the iPad reported it was unmuted. I then pressed the volume up switch a couple times. I noticed when doing this that the iPad first showed Ringer Volume being adjusted and then switched to Sound Effect Volume.

I then rechecked in-app sound and it was restored for all of the games and the youtube app I was trying to install in the first place.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
