How do I uninstall Quicktime X?

I upgraded some things and Quicktime movies with a "MPEG-2 Video, Linear PCM, Timecode" codec stopped playing (black screen)!

I need help, I was ending a project and now it just plays black!

The thing is I am using the movies in a really heavy After Effects project and now they show up black in the project as well.

This isn't about playing the movies, this is about seeing the .mov quictime movies with a "MPEG-2 Video, Linear PCM, Timecode" codec with Quicktime again just like I did yesterday before this mess.

I have quicktime X. How do I uninstall it? I need to install my old version back!

This was a great post, the only issue is that i keep getting the error that "quicktime cannot be installed on this drive because a version X already exists". So how can i get around that?

This message normally indicates a Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks user is trying to install the Leopard version of QT 7 instead of the special QT 7 v7.6.6 download for Mac OS X v10.6.3 and later.

Hi to all.

I'm not a PRO and might not have understood the details of Juan's issues, but I used to play with videos editing, watch movies in my Mac while working or convert my DVDs to QT so I could watch them everywhere. But, as a mere user, I think Apple's QT Player is worse each new version. I have installed Mavericks and now things got worse with QT Player...I've changed my default player to QT 7 because as said before in this forum, there is no way to delete QT 10.3.

I've got all codecs listed by Deborah, but even so, nothing seems to be properly functional, so let us see:

- QT 10.3 now needs to convert AVI and DVIX files (almost 20 minutes for a 350mb AVI clip). QT 7 plays straight and smooth.

- QT 10.3 does not play SRT subtitles even after converting the AVI/DIVX movies to MOV or MP4. QT 7 plays subtitles with native AVI/DIVX files. Here we have a major issue...I never got to play subtitles on a MOV or MP4 files unless I use Hanbrake to convert the files to iTunes. Is that a flaw of QT?

- QT 10.3 does not play MKV files. QT 7 does and plays together with the SRT subtitles.

- The video controls of the QT 7 is by far much better then the QT 10.3 as well as the other editing features.

I'm a Mac user since 1999, but QT player is disappointing. I don't understand what is going on in the head of the people in Apple's co. to make a nice player worse.

Hello Juan!,

I've found the solution to your problem; I was having the same problem.

It seems that your video was created with a Final Cut or another Video professional plattform, and you need a "special" codecs to view this content in QuickTime. For example, if you install Final Cut you automatically will have this codecs installed.
