iPhone keeps disconnecting from Mac

Since upgrading to Mavericks, I have been unable to sync devices (specifically ipad mini and iphone 4s) to my MId 2013 Macbook Air. They wil rapidly connect and disconnect, and I'm unable to do anything with the device. This happens with both USB ports. Any suggestions?

Hello,

I also have this issue with my new (late 2013) iMac.

I have an iPad (1st gen, 30pin) and an iPhone 5 (Lightning connector). I regularly transfer photos & music between the two. Recently I have noticed that sometimes when connecting the two devices to a 0.5m USB2 extension lead both devices connect and reconnect like crazy.

I do not get the issue when plugging them directly into the iMac (via the original Apple cables). I have tried on multiple ports & extension cables, all the same. What I find weird is that it worked previously with it and now it will not. Also when plugging the extension lead into a USB hub (plugged into the same iMac) they charge fine.

Any ideas?

I have same issue with my 15 rmbp (late 2013) and 32GB wifi iPad Air.

The weird thing is, for the same USB cable, it works fine for my iPhone 5. Furthermore, while I plug the same USB cable to the USB port on the right side of my rmbp, it also works.

The only case this is happening is that: I plug my iPad Air to the USB port on the lift side of my 15 rmbp with a specific lightening cable. Change cable/USB port/device will solve this issue.

Based on these results, I believe it is a software issue rather than hardware.

I have a 15 rmbp (late 2013) and 64GB 3G iPad and am having the same problem. I found that I was using an old cable so I swaped it and I managed to get it to connect sometimes. I was also plugging it in to the leftside USB port. Today after reading your post I plugged it in the right and it worked fine, connected and stayed connected. Just to test it was an issue with the left port I plugged it back to the left. Unfortunately, it also worked, therefore no idea what is causing it but is is a very annoying intermittent fault. But I have noticed that I get a better success rate when I have only one device connected, ie my iPhone is not plugged in at the same time.

I'm getting this problem with a brand new Macbook Pro with my iPad and cable that worked fine with another machine (also a macbook pro).

When I plug my ipad in I get the following notification in the console every time it connects and disconnects:

15/04/2014 4:00:43.637 pm usbmuxd[854]: _AMDeviceInsecureNotificationCallback (thread 0x100781000): Received insecure notification AMDNotificationFaceplant

Not completely sure that the two macbook pros are on the same release of Mavericks - will test tonight.

Looks like a software issue to me...

For what it's worth, I had a similar problem: iPhone appeared then vanished from iTunes, and lots of messages of the form:

7/7/14 8:54:08.531 PM com.apple.usbmuxd[17]: MuxInterfacev2Receive expected sequence 184 got 29159 from 0x3-a7fd62f346f2ac36afbac14089b7ab7a1af92e42@0xfa140000

... on the console.

Changing USB cables fixed it (even though the offending USB cable was a shiny new Apple USB cable).

I had the same problem on my iMac, and I tried everything to fix it, but nothing worked. My iPhone would sync fine in iTunes, but my iPad air would rapidly connect and disconnect. After I had tried everything suggested on this page and nothing worked, eventually, I tried holding the USB cable in different positions to see if that would help. To my surprise, it fixed the problem. Even though the same cord would sync my iPhone and my wife's with no problems, it wouldn't sync my iPad unless I moved the cord slightly in the USB port. To this day, I still have to do the same thing when I sync my iPad air. I don't know why or how it works; all I know is that it does. I know what you're thinking - this is nonsense. There are 4 USB ports on my iMac. It doesn't matter which one I use, this little trick makes it work. I know what your thinking - it must be the cable. I have plenty of Apple cables and I've tried them all, in every USB port; but the only thing that stops iTunes from freaking out when I connect my iPad is moving the cable slightly upwards in the USB port.
