iPhone keeps disconnecting from Mac

Since upgrading to Mavericks, I have been unable to sync devices (specifically ipad mini and iphone 4s) to my MId 2013 Macbook Air. They wil rapidly connect and disconnect, and I'm unable to do anything with the device. This happens with both USB ports. Any suggestions?

The solution is as follows:

  1. (Make a backup)
  2. Shutdown
  3. Connect your macbook with power (otherwise this won't work)
  4. SMC-reset (power management)
    1. Hold for 15 seconds: cmd + alt + shift + power
    2. If you have a MacBook with a magsafe adapter thats fully charged you will see the light change from green to orange for less than a second this means the reset has succeeded.
  5. VRAM reset (also known as PRAM reset if I'am not mistaken)

Power on and immediately pres and hold: cmd + alt + p + r. This wil restart the machine, hold these buttons until the machine has tried to bootup two or three times then let go.

The problem could comeback but just use this 2 minute trick and your good to go.

Please let me know of this worked for you!

My hardware: MacBook Pro 15 inch 2015 (fully spect). Had this problem with: iPad 2017, Iphone 7+, Ipad 4, Iphone 6. All works well after this reset.

I had the same problem on my iMac, and I tried everything to fix it, but nothing worked. My iPhone would sync fine in iTunes, but my iPad air would rapidly connect and disconnect. After I had tried everything suggested on this page and nothing worked, eventually, I tried holding the USB cable in different positions to see if that would help. To my surprise, it fixed the problem. Even though the same cord would sync my iPhone and my wife's with no problems, it wouldn't sync my iPad unless I moved the cord slightly in the USB port. To this day, I still have to do the same thing when I sync my iPad air. I don't know why or how it works; all I know is that it does. I know what you're thinking - this is nonsense. There are 4 USB ports on my iMac. It doesn't matter which one I use, this little trick makes it work. I know what your thinking - it must be the cable. I have plenty of Apple cables and I've tried them all, in every USB port; but the only thing that stops iTunes from freaking out when I connect my iPad is moving the cable slightly upwards in the USB port.

I also have this problem with my rMBP 2013 and my iPad. I tested 3 different cables and all of them didn't work.

I fixed it by using an USB 2.0 Hub (Bus Powered) between the MacBook and the iPad.

The only problem is, that you can't charge your iPad with an USB Hub but you can sync.

This is really annoying. I talked with Apple Support and they said I should replace the MacBook's logic board.

Do you think this could completely solve this issue?

Edit: I found something interesting:

If i launch a VM (Fusion) and connect the iPad directly to the VM, it stays connected. If I then disconnect it from the VM and connect it to OS X (without unplug),

the iPad also stays connected. But if i unplug the cable and reconnect it, the same problem occurs again.

Try this: It may not work, but it worked for me and someone else. I bought a replacement charger wire for my iPhone 5s, and after trying to use it to connect to my Macbook (late 2013), it rapidly connected/disconnected.

Check the "Show Percentage" on your laptop's battery icon at the top right hand corner and then uncheck it. Hopefully this resolved the issue.
