Desktop Icons winking in and out after Mavericks install

Same problem. Also using Google drive. Did the settings change, that seems to have helped...

Trouble is, it can be tricky to determine if it's Apple that needs to do the fixing or Google.

One thing is for sure: Apple doesn't admit mistakes easily.

Basically, your computer will have to explode, twice, for Apple to admit to a "slight over-heating issue with a small number of users under particular conditions."

Google... Well, Google is Google. Do any humans work there?

It isn't Apple, It is a Google problem, and or other Software.

Is anyone having the same problem with finder and icons disappearing, but NOT using Google Drive? I don't have Google Drive and haven't been able to find any help. I'm surviving on a third-party browser for now, but need a solution. Thanks!

Had the very same problem but did not have Google Drive installed so I tried to figure out what was causing it on my late-2007 iMac -- after flipping through the Activity Monitor, it looks like Copy was the one causing the problem with Mavericks on my end. I just forced Copy to close and the desktop quit blinking...which is a relief...now the Finder icon in the dock still bounces every now and then but the blinking has stopped and I can actually get some work done.

With Drive being the main reason and Copy being the one for me, I wonder if it is not a File Sync issue that is causing it...I wonder if Dropbox (which is also installed) might also be a cause?

For a short-term solution, while the blinking was going on. I just took a Sticky (the one on the computer) and made it the size of the screen and turned it to purple -- the least intrusive color -- and it kept the desktop hidden while I was trying to get some work done.

Here is what action I took to fix this issue without disabling/shutting down Google Drive:

Click Google Drive Icon -> Select Preferences... -> Uncheck "Show file sync status icon and right check menu" under Misc.

This should stop the crashing of finder (ie blinking of desktop icons).

I had exactly the same symptons, but the problem was NOT Google Drive. It was Citrix Receiver. I uninstalled Citrix Receiver and everything worked fine again.
