Tooeasy: Spot on, those will work correctly because yes they have a demo going. I went round testing the stores on these. They are not set up like a normal consumer's IPAD. Those store IPADS go straight into demo settings and hence why they work.

The other thing could be an update may have caused the issue. I think mine may have worked only once correctly. But after factory resets, new ipad set up, nothing works. I would say this problem is across most if not all ipads. Some people may just ignore it, but considering I own an Ipod touch 5th generation with exactly the same update (7.03) as ipad air and the touch works fine leads me to think something is a miss.

16B ipad air has this issue, 32GB has this issue and also I can confirm my 128GB one does it too. I'm not convinced it's hardware, I think it's still the software settings somehow conflicting with the hardware causing the most annoying issue in town right now.

My youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgF1PlTiC3w shows the issue. Can everyone on this forum so far confirm theres looks like this?

We'll fix it, don't worry!!!!!!!

Well, at first I thought it was some type of new safety feature. If you ipad accidentily gets turned on, then it goes to sleep to save battery life. If however, you turned it on, hitting the home buttom makes it wake up.

I just keep telling myself that so I won't take it back to the store and just stay with my ipad 3. Getting apple to fix this seems like a long shot.

Thanks Tooeasy, I apologise for all the questions. I just need to know as much as I can so that when apple get back to me, I know that everything works fine and that it is all down to this one boot issue. I'm pleased that everything is working fine and it does line up with what my 128GB version is doing. I have seen videos on youtube where things appear to be fine but it does not explain what's going on with yours, mine and the others on this forum. As always the minute I get new info, I will post it here so that if there is a fix, you guys will have your ipad airs' as they should be. They are a nice machine, provided we can get them all fixed.

Talked to a couple of box stores today. They are getting airs back like crazy. They realize there is a problem but don't know how to deal with it other than to refund the money. This isn't going to sit well with the suppliers as the box stores aren't going to take the loss. If they don't send them back there is going to be a lot of open box specials on ipad airs.

I guess the new slogan is not "It works right out of the box" but "We might fix it someday". Going to be a lot of confindence lost this time around I'm sure. JMO

I'm not giving mine up either. Its not a big deal to just hit the home button and wake it up. It just bugs me that Apple would send out the ipad air with this gliche and more frustrating that they are denying any knowledge of it at the support level. After all the testing and they don't know this happens, give me a break. It is their 5th try at making the ipad, you would think they would have it down by now. Anyway, don't expect an immediate reply or solution as if it was that easy they would have fixed it before releasing it. I guess we can be happy that its such a small issue.

Jaferriter: Thanks for your advice. The fact that you have tried 5 Ipad Airs should re-enforce that this issue is right across the range. I know people with the same issue on 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and mine being 128GB. When you say that the apple store one loaded right up. Did you actually see it go to the "slide to open" screen then physically slide to open or did it just load into a demo. Most of the store setup ipads are running a "demo" which runs straight into the main screen.

A correct IPad should load to the "slied to unlock screen" remain on that screen long enough to unlock it, then either enter your pin number of load straight in if you have disabled the pin code bit.

If we added up everyone on this forum who has this same issue, I would think that as much as 10 models have been tested, there is no way that this is just on some models, I beginning to think nearly all of them do it because there software booting sequence is out of wake. Granted it may work once for some people (if they are lucky) but I've done factor resets, I've done from back ups and I've set up as a new ipad, it still does it.

You could keep taking them back to apple, but it won't solve the problem, I think it's apple who need to set in now and release the update to fix it. We currently all sit on 7.0.3, bring on 7.0.4 I'm thinking.

Also Youtube are now getting a number of issues afftecting the new ipad air, so apple will need to get onto this very quickly so as to not lose money.
