Puremarky. I don't think it was a store unit. When I showed the clerk mine, he said he and his girlfriend had just bought one that morning and he'd go out back and get it and give that a try. He came back and it loaded right up. I wasn't watching closely but didn't notice him sliding anything and it didn't appear to be a demo program..It went on fast so, if nothing else, am assuming he didn't have a passcode set. When he was gone his girlfriend came over and said she hoped hers (32 gig AT&T) was okay, so (again) assuming what he said was so.

I bought 1 x 128GB WiFi Only and 2 x 64GB WiFi only for my daughters (UK) and my Dad bought a 128 GB WiFi only ALL 4 HAVE THE SAME SLEEP PROBLEM 😟

I am taking them back tomorrow to Apple Store and getting a refund, I dont want too because I believe it is a software update that is needed to resolve the problem BUT only if Apple recognise it is a massive problem.

Hi AndySimmo, I do understand your frustration truly. But do you think taking them back is worth the hassle? Knowing that you have 4 machines, and all four have the same sleep issue really does lean towards a software issue.

I'm from Australia and the same issues are happening here, I originally just thought it was my Unit, but when my replacement did the same thing. So I doubted it was hardware related.

I called the apple support team, who put me on to a Senior Tech Support Manager who has now forwarded my concerns to the engineering section who make these things. I will be pushing and pushing as hard as I can, believe me to get an update out for this thing.

I will also notify them that you have bought 4 machines and 4 had the problem. You'd have to be blind not to see there is a problem here. I'm giving Apple every opportunity to fix it. If they don't they are only hurting themselves and future sales and coming from someone who owns a macbook, macbook pro, ipod touch and IPAD, I should think they would been keen to keep me. I've spent thousands with them as have you AndySimmo.

I'm going to do my best to get this solved. I'm hanging onto to every email, till these situation is fixed.

Hi Puremarky, I'm so torn on what to do, I dont want Apple not addressing the problem with no software update and then a few years down the line when I want to trade in they have reduced in value as they have the boot problem! A crystal ball is needed here!!

Bit like Nikon with the D600 and the alleged dust sensor issue and then they brought out a new model the D610!!

I know its not serious but it actually annoys me that I have paid for these iPads and they dont start up as intended and they arnt cheap.

I love Apple and all things Apple but this is just annoying I am still leaning towards being safer rather than sorry and will take them back to the Apple store for a refund. Then see what happens I can always buy another batch 🙂

I wish you well seriously

I can see the stock dropping now. Its been 11 days and nothing from Apple. And don't tell me they didn't know about the issue before shipping. This reminds me of the Playbook put out by Blackberry. It was their downfall and they never did recover from the issues with it. I have one ipad air, but if I had four, I would return them as well and see how it goes.

Hi All, Just received a call from apple support and the engineering team have acknowledged that this is a big problem with the IPAD air. They have also advised that this problem is not "hardware related" so taking the device back to the store and getting a new one "will not" resolve the issue. I suspect this much myself. The engineering team cannot advise when the update to fix this will be released but do advise they have had alot of people worldwide advising the same thing. Apple support said if I am not happy I was entitled to a refund but it clearly won't resolve the screen sleep/wake issue. Typically an update is issued monthly as far as I know. So if you think you have a faulty hardware issue, IPAD's doing this is not a contributor. I'm sorry I don't have any more info yet, but acknowledgement by the engineers who make this is infact the first step. Regardless, I'm enjoying my IPAD air, it's working in every other way I need it to. Fingers cross and please keeping checking under the settings, general and system update tab on your machine.

The first step of solving a problem is acknowledgement. They pretty much had to as to many people had the same issue. Why they even thought they could sweep this under the rug is beyond me. They knew about it and if it was a easy fix they would have done it. I think we will be living with this one for a while. If I did not enjoy my pad so much I would have sent it back long ago.

It only happens if you shut down your ipad completly, so I guess we can count ourselves lucky.

When my iPad Air arrived the first Moday after launch, I noticed the boot to sleep issue. After time on the phone with Apple's tech support, it was determined this behavior was abnormal and a replacement was sent out immedately. The service was excellent- really a yardstick by which to measure other companies.

The replacement had the same identical boot to sleep issue. I returned the replacment and still have the original. As others have said it's only when you actually boot that the problem is exposed. It does appear this a widespread issue.

One interesting thing I have noticed. My iPad 4 updated to 7.03 does the same thing. It is not as quick as the Air but it goes from boot to sleep much, much faster than it originally did. Unlike the Air, you have about a split second to swipe or it's off to bed. If you casually tried to boot then swipe, as was normal, no way you could do it.

Again, it's not as quick as the Air, but much faster than it used to or should be to swipe to the home screen.

I'm convinced it's software and therefore I'm keeping my Air. I really like it and believe Apple will be able to fix this without having to replace units.

When this will happen , to me, is the question
